Hi all. Wrote my K1100rs off back in 2000. Been sat under a plastic sheet for 10 years until 3 weeks ago I decided the time was right for the rebuild. Most panels on both sides were scrapped, front brake lever, footpeg carrier smashed. got the panels from scrapper and the rest was just hard work. The most difficult job was taking the front brembo calipers apart, I had to machine the old bolts out. Got it all back together yesterday and it passed the MOT first time and on my first run out the seals blew out in the rear shock. I have one on order now and should be good to go on Friday. i have missed the old brick but now look forward to scaring the neighbours cats once more. I repainted the whole bike in satin black and now sports the 70mm black and silver roundels on the tank. Must say it looks pretty mean now.
I replaced all fluids, filters, fork seals, rebuilt all calipers, every electrical connection was cleaned out and greased up, new tyres and a rear wheel, gel battery, steering head bearings adjusted and it only took 128 hours. _________________ K1100rs 1992 model

Hey, thanks for that and here goes my first pics.
What do you reckon to the satin black finish? I'm gonna get a bagster tank cover and a tank bag for touring about and finish it off with some side luggage, already have the Z frames on.

would you believe it, I went out for a late blast in the full moonlight, the rear wheel was skittish, not hitting the tarmac after even the smallest of bumps so I came down from 120 to around 70 for the ride back home, up on the ramp and a quick look at the rear. Mono shock leaked out all the oil. It is the original Showa BM stock and it's lasted till now from 1992. Online check shows I can get one next day for around US $480. Guess that's my next move. I forgot how good the K is after being without it for 10 years. Still smiling after my ride out. Smooth or what......... _________________ K1100rs 1992 model

Have a read through the rear shock threads here. There's better ones than the original available. One of the members here has a group buy going on although it may be finished. _________________ K1100RS '97

I'm going for one of these from a local firm, sounds the part and they also do front shock springs.

Hi, Simonlap,
Realm Engineering is the company the group buy was from. They have an excellent reputation amongst the K11OG members. _________________ Ride Safe,

I split the remaining posts and moved them to Tech with a new topic as it was starting to discuss the water in the oil issue. _________________ Ride safe.
