Hi all,
In an earlier post FlyingDuck suggested soaking the fuel pump in Techron to free it up if it was jammed.

I have just taken my fuel pump out and tested it with a direct wire to the battery. It just makes a slight movement/judder but doesn't run.

Actually I have two pumps, one older one came with the bike, both behave the same way, one with a bigger judder than the other.

FlyingDuck suggested soaking it in Techron for a few days. I don't think I can get Techron here in New Zealand. Does anyone know of anything else I can do to free up the pumps? Willing to try anything reasonable rather than fork out lots for a new ump.

Dave

Look for something like this: http://www.seafoamsales.com/ I doubt you get Sea Foam there, either - but you'll have something similar.

Usually marine supply places will have something that will work.

Find someone in industrial refrigeration and get a bucket of R-11 freon. Keep the lid on to prevent evaporation.

If it will free up, R-11 will do it.

Try some concentrated fuel injector cleaner - like you add to your gas like the Techron.

Or some synthetic blinker fluid if you can get that there.

Gday Dave, if you have access to an ultrasonic bath it may work, failing that left in a bucket of kerosene for a few days is cheap and effective. If soaking in sundry solvents all fails there are numerous posts for fuel pump alternatives that don't hurt like the factory origional. A pump ex an EA falcon for example.
good luck

Are Redex products available in your part of the world ?
If so, I would try soaking in their Fuel injector fuel additive. Question

Someone posted here a tutorial recently for dissembling a K fuel pump and rebuilding it, I think the only hard part was uncrimping and recrimping one end. Anyone else see that>

"Find someone in industrial refrigeration and get a bucket of R-11 freon. Keep the lid on to prevent evaporation.

Refrigerant 11 was phased out several years ago in favor of the newer "less ozone depleting" refrigerants. Finding someone with stock on hand is unlikely to impossible.
I would suggest reversing polarity on the pump's power leads several times on a workbench with a 12 VDC power source.

look for lubro molly brand.. the stuff has work wonders for me. its made in Gremany and VW and mercedes benz actuall recemond it use in their cars .

but you really need to find out what has jamed it up. Gunk and Gum are very differernt from rust . if its rust then an oil type cutter will be needed to soften the metal kerosen deisel or even wd-40. kano makes a product kroil that we use on the jumbo jets at work. i have yet to find any thing better.

to losen the varnish any good store brand product will work but you gotta let it soak..

G'day Dave,

Do you have Caltex service stations in Unzud?

If so they carry Techron 5000 and it's not too expensive either.

Not all Caltex will carry it but the bigger better ones will have it alongside other lil additives.

Otherwise all the other suggestions are fine but there is nothing quite like 50/50 auto trans fluid and acetone.

Let us know how you are going with it please.

All the best now... Wink
