I have no idea what to call the thing I broke on my side case today but I am looking for ideas on how to fix it.
The lid on my side case slipped out of my hands today with some weight in it and it snapped the plastic tab on the case that the short cord attaches to that prevents the lid from hanging all the way down (keeps the lid level when opened).
I know I can just glue the plastic back together again but glued plastic tends not to be as strong as it was before it was glued. Anyone have a similar problem and were you able to fix it properly and how did you do that?
Thanks,

Milton, not sure which one you have or exactly which part broke. Can you pick it out from this pic?

It is not shown in the diagram, but it is the piece cast with the side case (part no. 3) that the holding strap (part no. 18 ) connects to.
Jeesh, I have a digital camera I'll take some pictures. Much easier to explain from a picture than my language skills.

I can't imagine any kind of adhesive repair being effective on that.
How about screwing a piece of angle or T section aluminum to the side of the case? The screw heads on the outside of the case wouldn't be noticed by anyone but you. _________________ Paul - '93 K11/12RS (sold), 2002 R1100S BCP and '03 RC51 KOG 29 |

Yeah, Milton. Your going to have to fab something and attatch it. Use some small screws or rivits and paint them flat black and you won't see them.
It looks to me that the piece that broke was molded with the case cover, and not replaceable by itself.
Unless you buy the whole case lid. _________________ Ride safe.

Milton,
I would give JB Weld a try before I drilled holes in the case lid for another attachment point. I have used it in similar situations.

I had the same thing happen on my last bike. It tried JB weld and super glue. Neither one held.

I'd use a rivet as suggested above. _________________ 2000 R1100RT

the K came with that part broken off one of my side bag lids. It looks like someone tried to epoxy it - but what ever they did didn't hold. I never could figure out what to do about it... Guess I'll consider the rivet route. _________________ Jim

River routes are one of my favorites as they are usually windy roads!
Sorry Jim, I've had a couple of glasses of adult beverages tonight and could not resist. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT
