|
|
Hi folks - need to remove the tank to change the air filter and do a general clean up on my 93 K1100RS. I used to have a 87 K75S and the tank removal was a pinch, but this one seems different.
I have the K100 Clymer manual but its obvious somethings different - ive checked all around the tank and cant find any fastenings.
What am i missing? |

It's the same as your K75. Two clips on the posts at the rear of the tank. The good news is that these bikes have longer fuel lines so you can pull the tank back without having to remove the fuel lines. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

IF your bike has the clips - none of mine have had them.
Lift straight up on the rear of the tank - if it comes up, you have no clips - then slide the tank toward the rear of the bike. _________________ Jim

It's a good idea to have the clips installed - unless you want a tank full of gas bouncing around when you have a getoff. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

If it's never been taken off they can be hard to remove. Once you're SURE that the are not clips on the posts, stick a piece of wood under the rear of the tank and pry up gently. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

ok im an idiot - found the circlips, removed, lifted straight up and forward, no dramas.
yes, the fuel lines are a bit longer, which is handy.
so my K75 mustn't have had the clips as well.
thanks very much.
btw, ive repaired and got the bike going, after so long, there's no probs at all with it (knock on wood), i've removed most of the fairing as it will become a naked bike to use in our hot climate here in Australia, especially when commuting.
ive also bought a single seat conversion from an ex-Police bike for cheaper registration (we get double the registration for a two seater - why? who knows) that has a nice lockable container where the pillion seat went. |

Wouldn't the seat have to get out of the way for the tank to go flying? _________________ Jim

Yes, in theory, but is it worth the risk? _________________ 93 LT (x2)
