See what happens when you inhale too much motobrick exhaust?

Guilherme,

Can't recall how much room there is at the sending unit. Might be able to install a tee fitting with the existing sensor.

Any idea where you would place the gauge?

Let us know if you do this mod.

Not enough - the auxilliary sender for the water temperature gauge is butted up close to the oil pressure sender.

The only realistic solution would be a pipe appx 50mm long with a male thread at each end, to screw into the oilpump and into the T-piece.

IIRC, oil pressure senders are quite bulky, maybe 25mm diam and 40mm long.
There will be enough clearance inside the fairing - just as well, for it will not look very pretty.

Are you planning to mount the gauge in the fairing trim, adjacent to the vanity light unit.
This is how the airhead RS/RT were done, and lwill ook very effective.

Guilherme,
Don't waste your time. If you are diagnosing a problem, hook up a gauge temporarily but then remove it. These engines do NOT suffer from oil related problems and adding a gauge just adds a point of failure that you do not need.

my 2 cents, worth exatly what you paid for it. Smile

I looked the placew that the oil pressure sender is located, and the place is pretty tight....
And the fairing is very close.
I believe I'll follow your recomendation....
Thanks.
Guilherme.

Here you go Gui, I painted itwith PJ1, but it did not wear well. I'll take it off and redo it with some epoxy to mke the coating more durable.

must The sender have 2 switches? One for the gauge and one for the light?
What's the brand of the gauge?
Do you know if Autometer has any gauge that will work?
Thanks.
Guilherme.

It's a standard VDO oil pressure gauge, the sender is also standard with a threaded adapter. I'll try to find the details and post them. Correct, there are two contacts, one for pressure, and one for the light. I pulled one wire down for the pressure side, and used the existing light wire.

Gui,

The gauge is VDO# 360-006
The sender is dual post, 12mm thread VDO# 350-040
The guage pods are VDO# 240-016

The pods mount through the rear and I drilled one 1/4" clearance hole in the dash for each pod, and used a fender washer on the backside with a nylock fastener. I had to cut a piece of 3/4" pvc about 3/4" long angled at one end to match the contour of the dash as a spacer between the pod and dash, and I painted them flat black with PJ1. The guage pods secure the gauges with setscrews that I drilled at 90 degrees and tapped. I think I used 1/4-28 thread screws. I also put an oring on the guage lip where it meets the pod. Still secure after 30+K miles.

I am going o do some PM on the bike soon as I get teh two rice burners I am repairing out of the garage. I'll post pictures soon.

egauges.com has them all.

Gui,

The other guage is the fuel pressure. It is actually the same oil pressure gauge (350-040) with the OIL stencil removed and FUEL stenciled over it. I had it done at North Hollywood Speedometer. www.nhspeedometer.com

Ask for Kurt, and give him the pod number. He said he will sell them for $10. I'll send a picture of the fuel sender mounting and get the part number later today.

One important bit of information. DO NOT use teflon tape or sealer on the threads of the sender. The sender grounds through the fitting.

Gui,

Check out this thread. You can see the fuel pressure sender in the photo of the cruise linkage. The egauges part number is 360-003. Because the fuel line connection is to the tee and hose barbs the sender does not have a ground. I made one with a piece of #18 wire. I grounded the wire to the frame, then stripped back an inch and tinned the end with solder. Then I used a gear clamp and clamped the wire on the sender body. You can cover the connection with a wrap of Scotch +33 electrical tape and your done.
