|
|
I have a 1996 K1100rs SE. I just took it out yesterday after a lengthy period of the bike sitting in the garage. Oil and coolant fine. I rode 15 minutes. When I got home and turned the key off and removed it, I noticed that the ABS light stayed on, although somewhat faint. There was also a loud buzzing/whirring sound coming from under the seat. I have no idea what that noise is from, nor do I know why the light remained on. The sound stopped when I moved the mototronic unit.
Later that day, I rode another 20 min. Bike actually lost power while I riding. I coasted to a stop and got to the side of the road. Loud sound again. 5 min later, I tried to start back up and was successful. I rode straight home (5 min) and turned off the key. Same thing as before - light stayed on, loud sound under seat. This time the sound didn't stop. I finally disconnected the battery, and that got it to stop.
Anyone with ideas on what the heck is going on, I am in your debt. _________________ Chuck Keller

2 things come to my mind to check on.
1st would be the ABS warning relay and circuits.
2nd would be the ignition switch, get some electric contact cleaner and clean the contacts as much as possible. _________________ Ride safe.

It would probably help to note that the ABS lights have been in the alternate flashing pattern for a few years now. I never bothered figuring much about it out because I knew that my brakes still worked in a non-abs fashion, and that was good enough for me. So the light staying on isn't abnormal in the sense that I already know something is amiss with the ABS system. The light staying on was strange because normally when I turn the key to the off position and pull it out of the ignition, all lights on the dash go out and now the ABS light still has a faint glow to it. _________________ Chuck Keller

Well, if it's been non operational that long, you might as well just unplug the multi-pin connector on the side of the ABS unit. That should disconnect the the warning lights from the unit.
If you want to go whole hog with disabling the unit, you will need to remove the cover(on the rear side near the battery) and disconnect the power wires under the cover.
I had alternating lights on my '95 after an incident and the only way I could get them to clear was a computer based system reset. _________________ Ride safe.
