|
|
I had to avoid some bimbo crossing a street corner without paying attention and I ended up laying down the bike on its side. Right hand mirror popped off but I was able to pop it back in. But now the turn signals and hazard lights are not working. What should I look for to fix this? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

The service manual mentions a connector for the headlight and turn signals when talking about removing the top part of the fairing. But it doesn't show it in the diagram. Where is that? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

The headlight and turn signal wiring are part of the main wiring harness. There is no separate connector for them.
I would check the connection for the flasher relay which is at the back in the relay box under the rear of the tank. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The connection seems fine. I guess I need to figure out how to test the flasher control box. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

If any of the bulbs had burned out, would it stop the entire turn light/hazard light system from working? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

If a turn signal bulb goes out then the side it's on should hyperflash when you signal on that side. (Flash at about twice it's normal rate to let you know that the bulb is out.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well, now I know that a flasher relay from 1989 doesn't work on the K1100's. It turns on all the lights instead of left right and it has an additional pin on the diagram that the newer relay (that doesn't work) does not have.
So, anyone have one of these laying around that you want to sell?

What extra pin? Both the green (early) and black (late) flasher relays have the same pins.
And they both have the same pinout:
(The unlabeled Blu/Grn pin is the turn signal cancel from the instrument cluster.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Not a physical pin, an additional label. The older relay does not have the cancel switch pin label, which on the newer relay is marked with a "C". _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

Huh? Both relays have the exact same pinout printed on the case:

No, the one that appears to be broken out of my 1995 does not have the "C".

Sure enough - I just went through my box of flasher relays and found a couple of black ones like that missing the C. But they came from running K bikes with fully functional turn signals. (I always test everything before I take a K bike apart.)
Also, if you look at the top of it it has the last seven digits of the correct flasher relay part number (61311459224) on both the ones with and without the C.
Here's one of the black ones that does have the C - notice it also has the 1 459 224 at the top.
And if you pop the innards out of it (easy to do) and follow that pin it will be connected to a trace on the printed circuit board.
And your turn signals worked before you had your getoff, right? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yes. They worked fine before, but with the older flasher relay I bought no matter what I did, they always behaved as if I had turned on the hazard lights switch. Cancel button works fine.
Strange, though. This relay I bought doesn't have the BMW logo but it has the 54-210-001. It shows a mfg by the name of Wehrle and it says Made in Germany. There are other slight differences in the labeling. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

The 54 210 001 relay has a green case, correct? The green ones were the earliest of the flasher relays. 1983 to about 88-89 I think.
They all should work the same in any K75, K100, K1 or K1100 because all of the turn signal wiring is the same on all of the early Ks. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yes, green case. Does not work correctly on my bike, as I stated. Wiring is all good so it's not that. I found a relay that matches mine, got it for $83 with shipping. I'll have it this week and hopefully it will fix that.
If anyone needs the older relay, I am planning to return it on eBay but I can sell it my cost too, $51 + shipping. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

Return it. Don't sell it. If it doesn't work in your K then it won't work in anyone else's. (Assuming your turn signal wiring is good.) As I stated, the turn signal wiring is the same for all of the old K bikes. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Found a new turn signal relay, got it today, works perfectly! But it turns out the brake light in the rear is not working and it's not the bulb or fuse. Don't tell me... There's a relay for that too? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.
