|
|
Are all the different center instrument panel clusters made for the K1100LT interchangeable? I want to change mine from KMH to MPH/KMH so that I can bring it with me to the US if I decide to move. All the connectors in the back appear to be the same, but I would hate to spend money only to find out the indicators don't work correctly. _________________ To err once is human. I'm pretty sure they are the same. The only difference is the scale, they just count pulses and generate speed and distance. The ODO is mechanical, you could prob take it apart and change the US version to the distance in miles your KPH ODO shows. If a clean title is worth it to you it's possible. If you are going to ride the bike forever I wouldn't worry about it. Check/replace the bulbs while you are in there. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

You can have a vehicle in this country with a KPH only meter - no problem. _________________ Jim

Customs will not allow the import of a vehicle with a KPH only speedo. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

They come into the country every day. As a matter of fact, I have two Japanese Domestic Market vehicles in my driveway as I type - they both have klick only meters - no MPH. I think you got some bad information.
One of the guys here in New England has a '92 K100RS Canadian spec with a klick only meter.
On the flip side, for many years HD had MPH only meters (don't know what they have now) - they may have made a KPH meter for the world market.
Sorry - we're a bit behind the times here. _________________ Jim

The ABS I and ABS II (pre-94 vs 94-on) have some minor differences but are more or less the same. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I've checked several web sites for this, including customs. They all say the same, must have a way to read MPH and it has to be permanent and illuminated. I know Customs people are a**holes, and I don't want to get a notice that I have to take the bike to an ICI, so I follow the rules on their site. _________________ To err once is human. My '92 K100RS4v reads KPH only.
But it only had to go from Canada (where it was sold new) to the US where I bought it used. I doubt the border folks had any problems.
flybd5, if you change out the speedometer is the changed odometer reading going to cause a different problem?
These folks look like they could just replace the face to read MPH/KPH http://www.paspeedo.com/bmwcompletek.htm
scrolling down that page I found
"We also offer face plate customization and MPH - KM/H and KM/H - MPH." _________________ John & Cathy

What I will do is calculate how many miles from the current KM odometer and set the MPH odometer to the equivalent. And obviously I will keep the old unit, at least until I leave Germany for good. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.
