I know this has probably been done and posted thousands of times,,,,
1993 Stock LT
fuel flapper removed
Fill tank on center stand to bottom of cap
Light came on at 147 miles
Ran out at 212 miles ( secondary roads)
Added exactly one gallon
That put the needle just starting to touch the first red block
Filled up 8 miles after installing one gallon, took 4.4 gallons
41 mpg +/-
So,
safe for about 50/55 miles after light comes on
when the needle touches the red zone, 35 miles left or so

Sounds about right - unless you're running 80+ or running turns hard when the mileage takes a hit. Really warm weather also lowers mileage a bit.

So does really cold weather..... I've also noticed, same as in your car, short start/stop trips will lower it. The more you keep moving the better it does.

I have had as much as 240 miles out of one tank and this was still in the lower end of the white zone and at the opposite end of the spectrum the warning light came on at 160 miles.

When I go away over Europe I generally look to filling up around 200 miles and never came close to running dry.

I've run out of fuel twice at 239 miles - pulling a trailer and running at a good clip on interstate both times.

Bike has had a flapperectomy (fill up on the center stand), shed biscuit TSB fix (prevents raw gas dumping out the vent), and the Max vacuum fix.

Now, if I can get the newest demon sorted...

Jim's reference to the "shed biscuit TSB" is referring to BMW technical service bulletin 16 018 94(2630R). It is supposed to address noisy fuel pump operation at low fuel level.

The other "max vacuum fix" is most likely referring to changing some of the vacuum line routing and connections, eliminating the cyclonic air separator and the tank vapor return from the vacuum system.

My issue wasn't noisy fuel pump at low fuel level - it was gas spewing out of the overflow. Whatever the TSB was for, it fixed it.

I called it the Max vacuum fix because Max in New Zealand came up with it.

I have a one hundred mile bladder, my tank is a moot point. My R bike has about 130 mile to the light, so I refill it when I drain mine. My K bike was 160ish to the light, I did a nature break between each fuel stop.
