|
|
I looked thru my books and couldn't find how to tighten up the play in my front brake lever. We ride a 1994 K1100LT. It's sure to be a simple process but I haven't found the answer yet and didn't want to take it to the shop. The lever is just gotten sloppy this summer with some play up/down as well as in/out. What's the remedy? Any guidance is appreciated. _________________ J&K Adamson

The in/out lever travel shouldn't be that much.
Measure the distance between the lever and the grip when it's released, and if you can pull it in more than 1/2 this distance, you should consider having the system looked at.
What position do you have the lever adjuster at. 1 gives the least amount of lever travel, 4 is the most.
When was the last time you replaced/flushed the brake fluid. How old are the brake lines.
As far as up/down play, because of the rotary adjuster mechanism there is a little more play to it than the clutch lever. However, as it is only aluminum it will wear. Only you can say what is comfortable for you to accept. _________________ Ride safe.

I don't mean to step on this thread, but does my 93 KLT have this feature? I've never found a way to change the lever position at all. I'd like to let it back just a bit. _________________ '93 K1100LT, '89 R100GS |

No.
I prefer the non-adjustable solid lever. One of the first things I changed after I purchased a 94 RS. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Unless your brake lever was replaced by a non-OEM part, there should be a dial adjuster between where your fingers contact the lever and the pivot. No?
It should have numbers 1 through 4 marked on it. _________________ John & Cathy

According to Max's, looks like the adjustable lever was stock for late 1100LT's, nothing earlier.
They also show the NON adjustable lever as NO LONGER AVAILABLE.(NLA) for the 4cyl K's and some R's. _________________ Ride safe.

I think model year 94 was the changeover year.
My 93 LT has a solid one, my 94 RS came with an adjustable one. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I have pretty long fingers. I'm 6'2" and have a hard time getting gloves with long enough fingers, and I find this lever to be a stretch. No big deal, I just wondered if I'd missed something. I have searched before and never found a way to adjust it. The good thing is that the brakes, at least for what I'm used to, are plenty powerful, and it doesn't take that much to stop the bike. _________________ '93 K1100LT, '89 R100GS |
