In all probability the small hooked part that fastens them in securely has broken off.

The only safe replacement is a new one. I replaced ll the locks on my K75 luggage which is basically the same as that fitted to the K1100LT and I found that, although you get 2 new keys with the lock. If you first insert the barrel it will clip in place then use your old key to lock and unlock the pannier which will set it up for that key. Use the one supplied and that will commit it for that new key.

I only found out by accident so it saved me the need to carry two separate keys when I am out and about.

Part number 51252303683 is a set of six lock cores with two keys that should run you about $70.

http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51621&diagram=51_8111&partnumber=51252303683

(Your dealer's parts people are idiots.)

The last "tang" sticking out at the deep end of each lock core is what holds them in. Check/lube those before spending money.

Thank you very much,,

It sucks big time to have to order through the dealer here with their mark up and the exchange rate,, now that the warm weather is here I can order parts into Calais Me, and scoot down there to get them,,

Brake lines?

https://spieglerusa.com/brakes/brake-lines-accessories-tools/cycle-brake-line-kits/make/bmw/model/k-1100-lt/show/30.html

http://www.galferusa.com/brake-lines-for-street-sport-racing-motorcycles/

FlyingDuck might be along with further info. He has a preference re: LT vs. RS. I forget what was for which bike.

Spiegler has the the LT brake lines. I think it's spieglerusa.com

Galfer has the RS brake lines.

Include the year, make and mileage of your bike in your signature - makes it easier for people to help you.

For what it's worth - I've had the LT up to an indicated 120 mph (probably 115 actual) with full luggage and pulling the UniGo - for more than just a few miles - no problem...

Of course, if the side cases aren't properly installed, they will fall off... Good idea to make stickers or tape your name and info to the inside - or on the bottom.

I don't have a preference. Both are good products.

Spiegler only makes LT lines. Galfer only makes RS lines.

By the way, Pashnit usually has good prices/deals on Galfer stuff. (Not affiliated but that's where I got my Galfer brake lines.)

I just purchased Spiegler for my 1994 RS. 5-line front/back Part Number: S-BM0109 - very nice quality kit.

I was about to post something similar. I've been reading through a bunch of posts playing catch up here, and kept seeing this "Spiegler for LT / Galfer for RS" comment by Drake and others. I ordered the front/rear kit from Spiegler as mentioned above back in 2011 for my '94 RS, and have had zero issues. (I don't recall this distinction in brake line sourcing ever being made years back either, so it has me curious.)

Is there something amiss I am unaware of? I would definitely like to know if there is a known problem with that Spiegler RS kit.

Question

My guess on the locks ejecting is someone mistakenly ground down that final tang mentioned previously while they were re-keying. (Or they were simply not latched in properly, as I do remember them being mildly fiddly during removal and initial installation.)
