This is for my '94 K1100LT. In past messages I read where someone had installed a aux manual cooling fan switch. If those responsible for this modification could respond with information I would be greatful. For example is it useful ( I live in a hot climate) and did you go through the relay or directly to the fan. I am new to the wiring and control systems on the Bricks but I do have a diagram which helps ( things are more complex and tightly fited than an airhead). I am also having issues with the windshield not lowering. the switch works and I see new relays and I have good fuses ( as it raises great). I am down to the limit switch on the motor. Any one with knowledge on this part?

One of the LT guys should be along shortly to help you with the windshield.

Good luck!

Good morning William...

Re: "your windshield motions"...

Its most likely the traveller mechanism.. you'll have to remove the windshield panel and examine the cable to be sure its lubed well ( not gunky and filled with debris ) then clean and lube the arms using a light silicone oil ( NOT WD40 ) and do this yearly, check for free motion when driving the "gear assy" either manually or electrically... however, ONLY as a last resort, disassemble the gear drive and check that 'end point' switch cams have not been damaged by previous "service"....and are in the proper radial orientation. Keep your BMW K1100 Service Manual handy and refer to it often ! If you still have troubles, come on back and ..... BTW Pics help a lot in diagnosing a problem remotely !

Good luck... ride safe....// Ernie in NH

That's old.

All you need to do is run a switch that grounds the blue/yellow wire to the fan relay.

Ya' know Drake, a little while after I posted that I remembered that it had been updated to a much more simple mod.

Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the help on my issues. The windshield was 'gunked' up with chassis grease on the rods. The down limit switch was sticking and an external cleaning has released the switch for now. Any replacement switches out there?
The blue/yellow wire was found and spliced into. That wire went to front fairing, into a switch installed into the switch blank, and ground was found at the 'map' light in the fairing. All checks out on 'ground' run-ups. Will fly the brick later today.

Yes......the blue/yellow is connected to the ground side of the relay coil,
which also the Motronic sends a ground signal to when the fan is needed.
