I'm leaving in 5 days on a 1500 mile trip, so of course now is when gremlins show up.

Both my fuel & temp gauges are not working. Both light fine, gas shows empty, temp about 1/3. All my fuses are intact. I'm not near my wiring diagram, so does anybody have any ideas?

Current leading idea is to keep my Gerry can full & fuel every 100 miles (sidecar = fuel hog), and not worry too much about the temp unless I get stuck in a traffic jam.

I would have started with checking the connectors, you have one directly
behind each instrument and a common one rhs rear under the tank.

Strange that the temp shows constantly 1/3, check the sensor at the
water/oil pump and its related wiring (for short to ground).

Green/black: 12V+.
Brown: ground.
Gray/blue: illumination.
Yellow: fuel level sensor.
Black: water temp sensor. (single blue connector, beside the multiconnector).

+1 ^^^^

When I had a K with instruments, the gauges were very sensitive to poor connections. They may stop working if the connector behind the gauge became corroded or slightly loose. I would use a good electrical contact spray and reseat the connectors several times each to clean away any corrosion. The connector under the tank rarely gave me problems.

I was able to get to TechShop today & use a meter- my nice looking fuse was in fact not passing current. I replaced the fuse, which immediately blew again. I suspect I messed something up when I mended a broken wire going to my GPS & heated grips.

I'll undo my handi-work and see if I get my gauges back. Then I'll run a wire for my heated grips back to my Eastern Beaver relay box and not connect in to the factory grip lead.

I did find a small, 2 wire connector under the tank, just to the left of the main center frame. The connector was not connected. I did connect it after taking a pic. I'll post the pic when I have a minute.

Thanks!
