|
|
Hello all...
Hey... anyone know where the Windscreen relays are for the K1100LT ?? They may be the two that are standing proud just under the mechanism... if so however the wiring color s have changed !
Thanks in advance for tip(s)... I think what has happened is that the "down stop" on the plastic cam has worn and the screen pulled beyond its intended down position.. May mean a complete disassembly. Any tips from our resident "smart people" ???

The relays is just in front of the instrument cluster left side.
You got a good starting point for the dismantling as the mechanism is at the down end of the travel.
Much easier when you're putting thing back together. |

Ernie, I believe that you will find the power relays mounted on the main fairing mounting bracket to the side of the inst pod, and the limit micro-switches will be mounted with the screen motor assy.
The up relay will have Grey/Yellow from the bar switch, Grey and Yellow/Violet to the screen connector.
The down relay will have Blue/Yellow from the bar switch, Blue and Yellow/Black to the screen connector.
Both relays will have Red/Blue(power) and Brown(ground) also.
The screen connector will also have a brown wire for the limit switches. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi Inge... Hi Scott....
Thankyou both for the guidance... I have found them !! Now the 'fun' begins eh? And Scott,,,OK I see now why I may have thought the wire/colors had changed... I'm a bit suspicious now however,,, when I trigger the switch either "up" or 'down' I get no relay response.. I'm going straight back to the switch BEFORE I get in too much trouble..all fuses look good ! Mechanically, Ive had this screen mechanism apart twice before, but have never touched the electrical.. Will keep you all posted as to the end result so that maybe we can help the next guy eh?
Thanks again and please ride safe !

If it is any help, I had two problems with mine. One was the switch had failed. I replaced it with a Waterproof 30 Amp 3 Position Momentary On-Off-Momentary On Rocker Switch from GAMA electronics. I put the new switch up by the windshield, beside the speaker fader switch. It required a bit of Dremmel work for sizing. It's black, but not a perfect match to the OEM switches down on the fork... so for appearances, I put it up by the windshield and put a BMW blank where it used to be.
What remained was a periodic failure even though the relays tested correctly. I found the relay contacts to be badly tarnished. Upon cleaning them all up and coating with a thin layer of dialectric grease everything is now completely reliable.
While there, be sure to that the guides are working smoothly and lubed. _________________ Thanks,

Good morning all...!
First THANKS for all the info relative to this problem... Got a REALLY GOOD up-front and personal look at every component in the system ! One would swear that this just came from the factory ! However, after testing everything obvious: ie: switch, relays, etc... the 'God of Speed' intervened to reveal the Gremlin...when a faulty connector wire accidentally made contact inside the "female half" of the connector... VIOLA,,problem solved ! So then just a bit of digging, stripping, cleaning and re-soldering and we're again 'good to go' !
Very best regards all... ride safe.....// Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

| Fuse #7: signal and #9: power. You find a diagram (and a lot of other useful info) in this forum if you use the search function. |

Found broken wire at back of switch.
It will go down now but not up.
moved around relays still the same.
I checked switch - meter bleeps both ways.
I'm chasing previous posts.
How do you reset screen.
I had to get a new motor as the old one was slipping
when moving down.
Thanks

If you need (I guess not) to dismantle the mechanism, turn the screen completly down first.
Or it would be a problem to find the position for microswitches that limiting the travel in each direction.
You find a lot of info here. |

Measure in the socket for the "up" relay.....at terminal 85 you should measure ground (exept when the screen is on full height)
....if you measure ground the microswitch is OK.
At terminal 86 you should measure ~12V+ when pressing the dash switch.
I would Guess one of these two is the problem. |

Did just see that you have added some to one of your previous posts.
About resetting the screen: turn the mechanism completly Down, remove the motor....
and energise the motor by just touching the wires untill the cam gear hits the microswitch.
Mount back the motor to the mechanism, take care with the wires....it's easy to get them together so they lift uneven.
Before removing motor, check if you got ground at terminal 85 in the socket for the down relay.....
if no, it isn't neceserry to remove the motor (if also the mechanism is completly down). |
