HI guys.
Does anybody have any info on what type of steel used for k11 frame production?
It looks to me like regular mild steel, but I just want to be sure.
Thanks. |

There's not much to read in this thread but I think it's as close as it gets at the moment.

but maybe you could pm Gui and find out from his mechanic any info that would help. _________________ Ride safe.

It's certainly not 1020 mild steel. It's more like an aircraft steel called 4130. . Maybe not such a high quality but still much better than MS. I have just sawn all the brackets off the rear frame and it certainly behaves like 4130 chrome moly. if you need any it's pretty easy to get. _________________ 1996 K1100lt.50K sort of cafe racer , without the racer bit. |

| Thanks a lot. Sadly it's not that easy to get 4130 in my location. |

So where are you? In the U.S. the supplier is Aircraft Spruce. Do you need tube or sheet what sizes? I have a small selection of sheet and tube. You could substitute CDEW tube (cold drawn electric welded) tube..... _________________ 1996 K1100lt.50K sort of cafe racer , without the racer bit. |

I'm from Taganrog, Russia.
The most funny thing is I'm near by tube-rolling shop. But they just didn't produce thin-wall chromoly tubes. |
