Hi,
can anybody shed any light on this....
I just picked up a K1100LT, to add to the K100RS, and the registration and log book say it was manufactured in 1997.

However when I put in the VIN on line, it comes up as manufactured in 08/06/1994. VIN is 0188024

Has anybody come across this?

It is possible that the Registration book is wrong, as many secondhand bikes are imported into Ireland from the UK, and I don't know how thorough the guys are in inputting the manufacturing date (the date of first registration on the log book is 04/03/1997).

It's not unheard of for a bike/car to have been mfgr but not registered for several years later.

Depending upon the registration rules of the jurisdiction that registered it the 1st time, the bike may have been crated till '97 when it was put on the road.
Also some consider a vehicle "new" till it is registered the 1st time.......


Either way, when you go looking for parts you will need the '94 date. That's why many dealers/parts suppliers want the 7 digit vin#.

looks like either it was hanging around for 3 years unsold, or it may have been imported and re-registered (unlikely as the registration number would have reflected the original date of 94, instead it is 97).

In any event, it is in good nick now.
