i noticed while replacing my brake light bulb that the tail light is not coming on. i turned the bike off and then on again and it turned on. if i jiggle the key in the ignition it will flicker. is there a solution to this?

That's the key contactor, change it.

Granted the key lock part is different but the electrical switch portion should be similar enough that it could be accomplished.

Nice, it's a bit different on K1100 but should work the same.
