Has anyone ever put additional openings in their belly pan (or other parts of the fairing) in an attempt to improve the heat situation?
It appears to me that there is more sq. in. of inlet opening than exit opening..and increasing the area of exit opening may improve the air flow underneath the body-work.
At one time I considered going to an earlier model fairing...but ulimately decided I like the looks of the K100RS fairing better.
In hot weather like this past week I take the belly pan off...but that's not an acceptable long-term solution.

Jay,

I had a '93 K1100RS

and now have a '92K100RS

From actual experience, both body styles are equally hot. Matter of fact I think that removing the lower fairing on the K100 (the white bike) made it slightly worst.

I don't know of anyone who has done bodywork mods to improve heat dissipation.

The two modifications that several OG owners have done is install a manual fan switch and the "johnnie blanket" foil. Both can be found using the search feature at the top of the page.
Those two mods DO help.

Thanks...
It's amazing how much cooler the later model bike is without the belly pan.
I guess I'll sacrifice mine and see what happens. It's got some scrapes from an altercation with some pavement...so it's not a huge risk anyway.

I usually just run my K without the belly pan in the warm / hot months. It's still hot in traffic, but overall I can tell a difference in the amount of heat on my thighs.
