i have a 95 k1100rs. anyone know if the power socket can still draw power from the battery when the bike is turned off? i want to hook up a USB charger port and i was thinking i could piggyback off of the leads to the socket or make a plug with an adapter for the USB, but i was reading that the USB plugs can drain a little power when the bike is turned off if they are connected straight to the battery.maybe need to find a switched power connection if the socket is not switched?

The power sockets are not switched. It's easy enough to add a switch.

I cant imagine that the empty usb converter would draw that much more power than the clock on the inst cluster, or say the radio memory on the LT's.

But like Jim said, yes a switch can be added.

one forum said it killed his battery between 3-5 days not riding. seems like the USB must be drawing more power than what the little green LED is using up. i think i will just add in a switch just to be safe. also, i just found this on amazon.com

I run my USB adaptor from the handlebar power socket. If I forget to unplug it, whether or not it has a load upon it, then the battery is too flat to start engine after about a week.

Very Happy Very Happy

I can ditto what "Midland Tim" said... though I dont power from any of the sockets, but rather have a straight (fused) battery connection to my USB adapter. If I forget and leave my GPS plugged in ( not ON ) it will render my bike un-startable within 4 to 5 days !! I dont want it coming off the switch ether since the GPS would switch off whenever I turned off the ignition (ie: fill ups ) and a separate switch would be no better than simply REMEMBERING to unplug !

Good luck.....// Ernie in NH
