My sweet beast blew the drive shaft (probably rear u-joint) somewhere near Falls City, OR. Sourcing another and a repair facility (probably BMW in Tigard, OR). Oh, the rally has been fun. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Bummer, Bob. How's the engine running, though?
Hope you get all that sorted without too much difficulty. Make sure whomever works on it gets the ujoints phased right... _________________ Jim

Jim, engine running great. Almost seems the faster I go, the better the gas mileage. Been getting 45-50 mpg, in the past more like 40. Out here in the west you really kick it up a notch. Running a ton on occasion. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Bob,
Sorry to hear about your bike. I did an R&R on mine last year.
Have you contacted Drake? He might have what you need.
Otherwise this guy http://www.hendersenprecision.com/index.html did a great job on mine. He usually does airhead shafts but did mine and installed circlips to make the u-joint removable. And the joint has a grease port.
Good luck with your repairs. _________________ John & Cathy

Glad to hear you are ok.
I hear what you are saying on the mileage thing. I can get up to 50 with either of mine till I start pushing 80+ then it starts to fall off a bit.
I think if I remember back when Steve had his shaft break, it was the front yoke at the trans output shaft that went out. _________________ Ride safe.

Drake didn't have what I needed but put me in contact with an outfit in Long Beach that's shipping a driveshaft. The dealer is sourcing a couple of bearings. Hopefully back on the road Tuesday or Wednesday. Just has to be reassembled. Sure wish I was doing it myself at home at my own labor rates. _________________ '93 K1100LT

But at least you will be back up and running.

Good morning all...
Sorry Bob is having problems... but we've all been in some situation or another similar at one time...eh? I had Henderson do my '77 R100/7 and it was a great job... would like him to do the "K" as well BUT he doesnt readily accept "K" work.. dont know exactly why. John may have just been lucky,
On the mileage... I resist the urge to kick it much over 75, first because of insurance issues with exceeding speed limit violations, but also because one simply cannot enjoy the environment if every second one's full attention must be devoted to the asphalt. Because of that I continually enjoy an MPG of 50-ish to the occasional 54 using 91 octane or better. IF I'm forced to use lower octanes or "spot market" non-premium petrols, then my milage (and throttle response ) will fall into the mid forties or worse...
Just my $0.02 here... and keeping 'fingers crossed' for Bob in his situation !
Best regards all and ride safe.......// Ernie in NH ( sometimes ) _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

Thanks to Drake, Parts Haus, BMW of Western Oregon and Capital One, I was able to get back on the road late Tuesday afternoon. All the expediting worked and the dealer squeezed me in.
Spending the night in Rock Springs, WY and just waana be home. Should get there Friday pm.
Weekend wasn't a total bust. Borrowed son-in-laws 1100 Shadow. Now riding that thing was a trip. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Ha Ernie, as long as the K runs as good as it did on that long, boring interstate-burner ride home, it is still endearing enough to keep. However, I probably wouldn't foot another repair bill the size of this last one.
If only I had been close to home, could have saved $400 in labor. _________________ '93 K1100LT
