Been having this problem the last couple days, the bike will loose power, not completely, just a serious reduction. Usually only for a second or two then back to normal, however today it was for a couple minutes.
I also noticed that the tachometer stops working when this happens.
The plan is to start in the morning checking and cleaning all electrical connections.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd start with the multipin connector at the motronic under the seat.
After that I'd check the wiring down to the HES sensors, then maybe give the sensors a heat test to see if they are starting to fail when they get too hot. _________________ Ride safe.

Hey Mike - could be any number of things - but that was what the K did last year before the connection in the bottom of the sending unit fried... Flip the tank up and look at the white plastic piece - if you see any yellow or brown spots, get a new one before they turn black. _________________ Jim

Scott,
It doesn't appear to be heat related, it usually happens in the first few minutes of riding.
Jim,
I replaced the sending unit a little over a year ago, its pearlly white.
Other than that I used contact cleaner and dielectric grease on all connectors I could find, looked for pinched/skinned wires, changed the plugs, ordered new plug wires. Other than that the battery is getting a little long in the tooth so I'll pick up a new one next week and probably a fuel filter. Allthings it was getting to be time for anyhow.
I hate intermittent problems, the only thing worse is what we call self healing problems at work. That's when a piece of instrumentation just starts working again, for no reason we can figure out. You never really trust it after that.

The tach feed is tapped from the cyl 1,4 coil pack wire at the motronic connector. The motronic provides the ground to complete the circuit, so if the motronic isn't "grounding" the specific terminal the coil pack doesn't fire and the tach stops reading.
Even if the coil pack or plugs were going bad, it wouldn't stop the tach from working, as you say is happening.
The trigger for the motronic comes from the hes rotation sensors.
There could be a number of issues here that could cause this.
Dirty/bad connection at the motronic connection(I have this happen with my fuel pump relay feed once).
Dirty/bad connection where the HES harness connects to the rest of the wiring.
A broken wire anywhere between the HES sensors and the motronic plug.
The HES sensors could be going bad.
Hope this helps. _________________ Ride safe.

So far so good,
After cleaning all the electrical connectors, new plugs, and a new battery it ran flawlessly on the way to work this morning, hopefully its fixxed.
Thanks

Myself having the later models of the K, I keep forgetting that the early K's (as in mfg thru 07/93) will have an HES signal conditioner/amplifier that is mounted to a metal surface with some heatsink compound paste.
When this past dries out and the AMP can't dissipate the heat properly it can cause ign firing issues.
This was a left over component from the K1 and some K100's.
Usually removing the AMP and refreshing the paste will correct any issues. _________________ Ride safe.
