It seems it has come to a semi-ergent state of affairs that I should strongly consider thos option.

I don't really talk about it because there's nothing anybody can do, I ride in pain all the time.

The Ortho Doc told me just yesterday he wants to fuse C7 & C7.

It's not just the remarkable pain but the nerve compression causes me lose all the feeling in my right hand to the point I can't feel the brake lever.

I have to replace the fan so I'll be in there anyway.

Thanks in advance.

It would be an endeavor well worth the effort. You may have to buy/install the newer electronic version as I don't think you will be able to find an older vacuum system. Unless someone has one hoarded in a closet somewhere.

http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=422

The older vacc system is still listed here. A little more $ than they used to be but the newer electronic ones are close to $300 for all the parts.

Here's a write-up about an install of the new version.

Thanx Scott.

Electronic one will be fine.

Anybody with installation history have any words of wisdom?

well, you will need to find room to put the controller. Not going to be easy on the Blue Streak..............
It looks like the electronic one has a smaller form factor to the controller.

The review I listed sounds like he removed an older vac based unit for the newer electronic.

Just a thought Gwen. As a simple effective solution to give your arm a rest I have a Vista Cruise fitted on my RS

Gwen,

FWIW, I had several encounters with Murph (from my brief Concours fling) and was never disappointed. Good folks to deal with.

Also- considering how much you have packed (electronically) onto the bike, think of where you might place an accel/resume decel/set switch.
Some time ago Drake used an LT windshield switch for that function- the advantage being that it just takes the place of the left turn signal cluster.

Not easy to find- but I have one that is yours for the asking.

Let me know.

Please keep us informed about your ongoing cervical Dx.

John

This is just about $100 more and looks simpler to install...

http://www.amazon.com/Rostra-Universal-Electronic-Control-250-1223/dp/B007ZCQD9S/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1368544839&sr=1-1

Thoughts?

I will make a buying choice w/i 24 hours as I need it delivered by 5/22/13

Yea, that's the electronic replacement for the traditional one listed in the Murph link above.

The older one does come complete with the "dash" control, and other hardware that the amazon one lists as extra..... FYI

They should both work the same.

I have heard of Drake doing the "LT windscreen switch" mod for CC on an RS. I can't remember where I saw his writeup on it though. Basically the system stay "on" all the time and you only "set, accel, or decel, coast" with the windscreen control switch.

Murph sells the non-vacuum ones too, although the amazon price is better. Much easier to install than the vacuum one and works just as well.

http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=369

BTW if it stops working, open the electronics box, take the circuit board off, and under it you might find the motor mounting screws have fallen out and the motor is floating around. Loctite the screws back in and hey presto all going again.

I can't find the thread with my write up of the install, but basically I stuck it into the tool storage area out the back with a hole drilled for the actuator cable. Didn't bother with the clutch switch or any of the relays. They may be a good idea but it worked fine without them. I'm a great believer in the simpler things are, the less likely they will break.

Scott, or anyone on line...HELP.

We can't get the LED on the controller to light up indicating it "sees" the VSS.

We tapped the VSS on the main bike wiring harness.

Ya, switch 10 would have to be off to get it going. Is that what you did?

It's complex.

Remember me saying nothing happens without a reason...

There were several in this case.

We are beat but closer to getting things smoothed out. We've been at it since 0630 and it's 1800. Time to clean up the garage and ourselves.

Steve deserves a Prime Rib on the grill, so what I'm working on now.

Up-dates will be posted here later...possible tonight sometime.

Ok... this is what we found.

1. The micro switch on the front brake didn't work. The brake worked but it didn't turn on the brake light.
Solved it by replacing the switch.

2. The last time I replaced the fan, I forgot to put the bolt in that holds the upper fairing to L-bracket. Fixed that.

3. The Fan is still not working. Not that important at this time and will address later.

Next - CC project

This is how we attached the cable

This is were we put the CC box.

This is where we tapped the front brake wire. (Brown/Green)

This is were we tapped the VSS

There feed back here on the final drive.

Brake light and parking light tapped here.

Now some replay pics and drawing as to how they are wired.

What doesn't work are:

1. VSS but it was working yesterday. Still don't know why it stopped working.

2. When the VSS was working the brake safety system worked but the clutch relay didn't. Now neither are working likely to dip switch setting being moved.

Steve did some continuity testing this morning and say I need to go pick up a "NORMANLY CLOSE" relay.

What I'm going to do right now is fabricate a mount for the dash mount controller. I'll look back here when I'm done with sorting that part out.

Thanks everyone for all you advice and help.

Gwen

I finally gave up on the fan problem and I'm about to hard wire a manual switch. The failure is either at the sensor on the top of the motor ($89 to replace) or at the Motronic ($$$??).

We tested to see if the Motronic would fire a signal when the temp gauge showed it should...nothing.

So either the sensor didn't tell the Motronic the engine is hot (bad sensor) or if it did, the Motronic couldn't respond.

I don't know how to test the relay.

Either way I just don't have the time or the funds to make a real repair of this.

Well, if you connect your "fan switch" to the "motronic" side of the fan relay coil, you will be using the fan relay, thus eliminating a "test".......
