I currently have no tool kit. I want to put something together that will work for a week long trip. Back in my Scirocco days, I would bring my huge tool box, because anything might break and any moment. For thins kit, I just want to not be stranded. What do you have in your kit?

Read this.
http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4154

Also do a search for "tools and trip", you will get about a dozen different threads to pick from to read.

curve,

How many miles on your K?

You have NO tools? Not even the just OK roll that was on your bike when new?

If you really have nothing, check out http://cruztools.com/

If the bike's mileage is up there, an extra new or used fuel pump and new filter are a good idea to carry. Maybe a couple new side bag hinges too (don't ask me why Embarassed...thanks Phil, wherever you are.... )

A flat kit can help you at least limp to a better tire repair/replace.

Replacement headlight and taillight bulbs.

Beyond that, we start to get into long distance self repair, IMHO. Just off the top of my head.

Others should add to this list.

Thanks for the different search terms. I did one with "tool kit" and there was very little info.

The bike has 58k miles. I just replaced the hinges (glad I had a bungie) and the fuel filter is new. I'll read the other threads tonight.

curve,

BTW, you are just over 200 miles away from the AMAZING, SPECTACULAR annual K11OG get together.

Hungry Mother State Park, Marion Va. Right down I-81.

GREAT roads, equally great folks.

Check it out here.....

Hey John, he has my old K11, so yeah, a good assortment of tools is a good idea. Laughing

There never was a tool kit with it so I had an assortment of Cruz tools and others to cover the basics. Those are now on my Wee along with joke of a Suzuki kit, my kids plastic tools look more substantial than these.

I was always looking for an original BMW kit, but they were always expensive.

Hey Curve, when I sold the bike (to another), I had a spare clutch and throttle cable, fuel filter, and some other odd bits, did you get those?

So Steve,

If curve starts up his K-RS on May 1, will it have a mind of its own and transport him to HM? Laughing

There were no "extras" with the bike. It looks like I'll be going through my toolbox to see what dup items I have.

I may be able to visit HM on Sunday. It will be fun to see all the bikes and meet some people.

Sounds like he stripped everything he could off of it, are the heated grips still on there? Rolling Eyes

On Sunday everyone usually heads out for home, so there might not be much to see....

I'm very glad the heated grips are there. I'm happy with the deal I got - $3800. He did give me a extra OEM shock and spring.

Thanks for the pointers. I have a stock tool roll on the way, a small compressor and tire repair kit.
