I couldn't find anything specifically about Finland, so can anyone tell me what ratio of coolant/water my K100RS needs here in Helsinki? The temperature can occasionally get as low as -30 degrees celsius (-22 Fahrenheit) , and the bike will be kept in an underground car park (unheated). I'm guessing the standard 60/40 mix won't be suitable?
Any other tips for cold weather storage? The battery will either be removed, or I'll leave my optimate connected (if the neighbours don't complain - I'm not sure if it's allowed). |

Here in Minnesota, which also gets that cold I have always done 50/50 and haven't ever had any problems with motorcycles or cars. _________________ 93 K1100LT

I used to live in Manitoba, Canada, where temperatures sometimes dipped lower than -40. I always used a 50/50 coolant mix and never had a problem. _________________ '93 K1100RS

+1 Dave.
It gets this cold on occasion in Ontario. I've also had no problems with a 50/50 mixture. Same ratio used those years I was living in Oslo as well. _________________ - Robert

Hello all...
For my input.... I think Drikko's solution is the best ! We should all give it a go !

If it gets that cold "underground" how cold does it get above ground........
+1 with the others on a 50/50 mix.
You could drain it all out and leave it empty, but then you are exposing all the inside surfaces to air that can create other problems, like corrosion. _________________ Ride safe.
