I pulled the final drive apart to find the bearing gone and I also don't see any shim. Even if I could replace the bearing I don't know what thickness shim I should use and my Clymer manual says if any bearings are replaced the Pinion Gear-To-Ring Gear Adjustment should be performed. That looks like it involves a bunch of specialty tools. Any one done this or have recommendations.

Well, if you don't want to mess with it personally, look for a shop that might. Otherwise just look for yourself a complete used FD assy to put on the bike. Might be better off in the long run.

If there is no damage, change also the other bearing (on the other side), it must be worn too.

The bearing on the other side looks good but probably a good idea to change it anyway. I'm going to phone the local dealer on Mon for a quote to fix it.

Got the bearing off but I'm trying to get a new bearing from a local supplier without paying the BMW price but I don't know how to get the size. Didn't see any markings on the old bearing, MAXBMW has a part number but no size. Any one know what the size is? 95 K1100LT part no # 33121242211

Taper bearing 25X52X16,25mm SKF No 30205 J2/Q BMW Pt No 33121451188

Bearing sizes are i.d. X o.d. X width

Most bearing sizes are shown on the realoem.com pages

After checking with the local BMW shop for a quote of 5hrs @ $110.00/hr plus parts, and checking online for a used FD at between $300.00 to $500.00 I decided to fix it myself. I asked another person who has done this repair about the bearing and apparently your suppose to use the OEM bearing which has a FAG rating (don't know what that means). The bearing was $115.10, seal ring $37.88, O ring $8.72, brake disc carrier bolts which I destroyed getting off $4.66 btw these bolts are on with loctite and are aluminum, probably a good idea to buy replacement bolts anyway. Also, I was told by the person who has done this repair that I didn't have to worry about the Pinion-Gear-To-Ring-Gear-Adjustment if I was just doing the one bearing. Total $186.32 after tax (12% in B.C.) plus a case of beer for mechanic who took off the old bearing and put on the new one. I couldn't get those pivot pins out, there also on with loctite even after heating it up so I just left that part on the bike which means I didn't get to lube the spline (do that another day). My rear disc is in bad shape and a new OEM one is around $400.00 which might make it worth buying a whole second hand FD. Also found a hole in the rubber boot which means taking those crazy pivot pins out, (fill the hole with rubber cement for now).

FAG is the company that provides most of OEM bearings for BMW. Yet I have found in my tranny bearings made in Japan and Poland! That last was astonishing because I am the firs owner of the bike in PL (registered in UK previously). FAG had also some epic fail with rear swing arm bearings. There ware a lot of cases of premature wearing of those little bastards.
Any good quality bearing with the same type no (eq. 6200 or 608 - roller skates Smile ) will do the work. Yet the OEM seal ring is the only solution - others were reported to fail after short time.
