Guys,
Just back from my holiday (vacation) and time to get back to the job of fettling my new (to me) K1100LT to make it "just right"
I'll leave seats (custom lowered) and screen for the minute as I want to address the heat issue.
Although I had read about it online before taking the plunge, I had wrongly assumed that it was a real issue for you guys in the hotter Southern US states but that it wouldn't be an issue here in blighty !
Firstly, I see reference to air deflectors on the front forks - standard on later models. Mine doesn't seem to have anything (it's a '94) but looking at the diagrams on RealOEM, I can't see what part I should be looking for.
Does anyone have the part number, or an image of these deflectors ?
Secondly, I can see the sense of modifying the fan wiring to bring it on earlier, or constantly at part power or via a separate switch or rheostat - but the links to posts on here seem to be old/deleted. Can anyone point me at a (simple) article on the subject ?

Hi Terry, I may be able to help a little with the second question, as my K1100RS came with a fan switch fitted. It is wired into the relay box under the fuel tank and IIRC, the fan relay is the second relay from the right at the front of the box. Looking at the wiring diagram in the Clymer manual, the relay appears to take its power from the green/brown wire and the output to the fan is violet/yellow. I expect someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to confirm or refute this.
The switch is useful not only as an 'early cooling system', but also to give the fan an occasional spin to help stop it seizing in our usually cool climate. Hope this helps a little, Howard. |

Thanks Howard, that's the basis. However from what I remember of the thread, I think it was Drikko, who fitted a series resistor about 3 ohm, so the fan ran at 1/2 speed & when stationary for a while, the relay would still operate as normal to give a good blast of air. _________________ Regards Tim,
