Is there anyway to take apart the mirror to get to the glass area? My R/H mirror wont stay in position, so need to know if there is any way to tighten it up.

The best way, in my opinion, is to use a suction cup, the Go Pro one works great, and pull the mirror.
There are other ways, but it is tricky and you may break the glass.

I should rephrase that, get apart the mirror housing, I need to tighten up the mount in there so it will stay where i adjust it too, it is just slightly too loose and the vibration knocks it out.

Had this issue, solved it by changing the mirror itself.

Ok, Thanks, did you replace to whole thing or just the glass? when i bought the bike, the mirror glass was cracked due to a low speed tip over, I had the glass replaces at a glass shop, and they said they could not tighten it, but the other day i had it holding in position for awhile, but them it went back to just falling, so trying to see if any way to get in there and tighten it. I have seen all colors but mine when looking for parts, or else i would have replaced it already.

Changed the whole mirror, it is not that expensive to buy a brand new one.

I've replaced a couple of mirrors for 'other' reasons. Embarassed

I'm guessing that if your mirror is loose, it's because the plastic that clips on to the ball mount is damaged. I don't know how you'd tighten up that joint. If I remember correctly, a new mirror glass (including the plastic backing plate) runs something like $25.

Ok, thanx for all the help, I was hoping to be able to just "fix" the problem, but the plastic being damaged makes sense, I just hope i can find another mirror the same color and the paint in as good of condition as the one i have, that way there wont be a mis-match.. Crying or Very sad

I had the same problem with both mirror glasses on my '95 when I got it. Nothing was broke just worn real bad.
Took 1 layer of black electrical tape, Good 3M brand 33+, not the cheap stuff from your local hardware store.
Anyway put that 1 layer around the ball in the housing and then snapped the mirror glass back on.
They haven't moved since.
If you search the stickies I think there is a write up about how to wrap the mirror assy in a thick towel and slam it onto a hard surface to pop the glass assy off of the ball mount without breaking the glass.
It works.....

Good morning all...

After dropping my bike during HMSP-lll, I had the same problem with the right side mirror. After getting the mirror housing put back together the mirror itself would not remain as placed because of the "slop fit" of the ball and socket. My solution which has now held for the past two years, was to dilute a small batch of J-B WELD with some acetone to thin it out, and then paint several light coats onto the 'ball' to build up the surface somewhat as well as to improve the friction between the two surfaces. So far/so good ! As far as the glass goes, a glass shop replaced the mirror for $35 if I remember right !

OK... thats my $.02..... on mirrors !

UPDATE------ After breaking the glass and deciding to get one cut at $35, and considering the plastic backing was messed up, I ordered one from BMW, it was only $7 dollars more and it came complete with the plastic backing, so i only had to pop it back on the ball, The glass clarity was so much better than the glass on there which i replaced before, and now it holds adjustment. I also replaced the gaskets between the mirror and fairing, (Highly recommended) and wish i would have ordered the left side gaskets also.. I just want to say thanks to those that helped..
