this is an update from my campfire post..

1st day off since my trip and my K1100rs becoming inoperable. I just dropped the oil pan and the oil filter fell into the oil tub. so apparently the oil filter came off the spindle. Letting it drain out then i'll try popping my head underneath to look for damage in there. wish me luck, and any suggestions are welcome.

Well, new filter's installed, still no kick over. tried push starting got 1 backfire but no start, any takers?

Check compressions first, then ignition, fuel.

Hi there!

Can You hear the fuel pump, is fuel level sensor working? After ignition on with side stand up a fuel pump should work for a few seconds. It sounds like engine turn OK, yet no fuel or ignition. I would go and check the fuel power connector - power to pump, pump fuse.

Best regards,

I heard the fuel pump ok in the Vid. That should rule out the side stand safety switch.

Pull the spark plugs and see if they are wet.
Wet would indicate that at least the injectors are opening and allowing fuel into the engine, and also eliminate a pluged fuel filter.

With the plugs out, check for compression.

Not sure how much you and Audi checked on the side of the road. But just a guess you changed plugs and the ff at that time.

Check for spark, possibly the HES ign sensor could have quit, or a bad power connection to the coils.
They use a switched ground, so they should have +12V at the power connections when the ing key is on.

The search button at the top of the page is your friend.

well, the results are in. I took my ride to the neareast dealer, Pensacola FL. Not good news, after 2 hours of labor the diagnosis was to replace the cylinder head. I won't be performing this service due to cost. If i was techincally savvy i would attempt to fix myself.
At this pint he's back in my garage until i figure out what to do. Maybe part out or sell to someone who can give him the second chance he deserves. Crying or Very sad

So the compressions were low I guess?
You can buy a used engine for a reasonable price but it is quite some work to replace it.

Back in '08 I paid the dealer to replace 2 valves on my '97.
Had I known then what I know now, I would have done the work myself and saved about $1000.
The one thing I did learn from the experience, DON'T BABY THESE ENGINES. Run them hard. Don't hesitate to run the RPM's past 5K.

How about doing a leak down test. That will identify low compression/rings issues.

Did you decide if you are going to sell it or part it out? How much would you want for it whole.
