Does it make a difference what half of QD is on the fuel hose?
In other words should the "spring" half be closest to the tank or visa versa?

MD - no, it doesn't. When I installed mine, I put one on one way, and the other the other way - that way you can't get the hoses mixed up.

Not only that, but by having them that way you can also connect them together to keep dirt and debris out......

I don't know anything about Jiffy Tite - make sure whatever you get won't be destroyed by gasoline.

I did the same. One male, one female on the tank to keep them straight and for easy plugging.
