hey all!
i know i have been mia for a while, almost entirely due to school. i went back to grad school this past year and got completely sucked into it. so much so that the poor k11 has been a bit neglected and relegated to garage time.
however, i'm all graduated and have some good and bad news:
good -- i graduated!
bad -- the bike didn't get ridden much
good -- i have a job!
bad -- it is in chicago and i most likely need to sell the bike
good -- the bike is in pretty much the exact same condition i bought it, except now with a much better saddle
bad -- somehow all the brake fluid seems to have leaked/evaporated out of the front so it needs correcting.
i don't really know where to start in terms of what the root cause may be. i do remember that at times last year it seemed there was leakage from the front brake lever, but i didn't investigate it (not that i thought it was normal, just no time). what kind of time am i looking at when doing either a rebuild or just a cleaning? i am referencing this thread: http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6897 for procedure. has anyone since done one with pictures? and that leads to bleeding the brakes, is there a good write up for that? i didn't see one with a quick search.
maybe this post should have gone in tech after all ...
i am quite sad about the thought of having to sell the bike because i have loved every second of riding it, but the chances the fiance and i will be able to find a place with a garage are not great i would think. and the only other option would be to leave it here in ks where it would no get ridden. so that leaves me with getting the front brakes back up and running and putting it up for sale. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

supercat1,
We missed you again at HM. Good time- 'specially now that most sleep and everyone hangs out at the lodge.
You going to post the sale here?
Good to hear that you are out of academia. Best of luck with all your changes.

SC1,
I just finished rebuilding the front master cylinder on my LT. Start to finish the job was probably 2 1/2-3 hours. I get carried away when it comes to cleaning parts before reassembly, so you could probably do it in 2 hours if you're organized (I'm definitely not).
It's not difficult, just really messy. As we all know, brake fluid is evil stuff, especially around paint.
FWIW, I bought the M/C rebuild kit from Countryside before I read the write up (and found the discount codes!). In retrospect, the kit was probably unnecessary (although I went ahead and installed it). All it needed was the gummed-up fluid cleaned out of all of the nooks and crannies.
That's my $0.02 worth _________________ '02 - GL1800

well of course i'll post the ad on here if/when it comes that time! i wouldn't want to deprive all you of wishing me luck in the sale and then not actually offering for the bike. plus, where else will i get low balled by a bunch of OG's?
and yes, peter and i definitely again were sad not to make it out! we still talk about that trip and it stands as the highlight of my time riding.
i don't plan to be forever without a bike, but i think this move is one where the bike can't follow. the thought of storing it here in ks (or if anyone is offering to store it ... ) hasn't completely been ruled out since the bike costs literally nothing as it was paid for in full. but then, it would just be sitting and not being enjoyed.
whyoldbill -- thanks for the info on how long it took you. i'm guessing it will take me close to the 3hr mark. what are these discount codes you speak of for countryside? i am always interested in saving money ... _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

hey all,
so with the sale of my k11rs i am now in ignominious ranks of the "former" k11og. i imagine there will come a day in the future where i return to your storied ranks, but sadly that is at least a year away. i will do my best to check in from time to time and see what's going on.
i can say i won't make it to hungry mother next year (2013) because my wedding is only a couple weeks after that, and i kinda need to save the vacation for that. but, i would try to get out there even without a k11 if i could!
best of luck to you all, and hopefully the new owner of my bike finds his way here and is able to learn as much from you guys as i have in the past 2.9 years!
