I bought this bike a few months ago. Came with tools and shop manuals but no owners manuel. Can't get the stereo to work. Where does one find the security codes for the stereo? This bike also has theft protection whci I also have no clue how to operate. Thanks for your help. Kevin _________________ 1993 K1000Lt, 30,000 miles |

Hate to say that probably your only chance for the radio codes would be to visit a dealer with your bike vin and the radio serial #.
Can't say about the other security system, don't have one or know many that have had them either. _________________ Ride safe.

Kevin - good luck with the radio code. Although the dealer should be able to provide it, some dealers won't, and others are reluctant to. If getting the code turns out to be a hassle, you can replace the radio with something a little more up to date - like with an input for an iPod or MP3 player.
Be advised that if you get the security system working, it will drain the battery - make sure you keep a trickle charger connected. I don't know if you're in a bad neighbourhood - our older K bikes are not usually a target for thieves. _________________ Jim

Do you have the remote control for the alarm?
There is a way to get the radio code, I need to search my documents and translate teh procedure. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Rusty at Max BMW was able to get my code from my VIN# or the radio serial number by contacting "BMW Technical".

I had the same issue just over 3 months ago, when I bought my '95 LT. The PO had lost the document that contained the security code for the radio, and couldn't remember it. He called his dealer (Bloodworth BMW in Nashville) and provided the 7 digit number located at the bottom of the "Anti-Theft Radio" sticker on the body of the radio. It's my understanding that Bloodworth BMW called BMWNA with the above mentioned 7 digit number. BMWNA then provided the 4 digit radio security code. _________________ Scot

thanks guys. I called the closest BMW dealer (150 miles away) and am gonna schedule an appointment to get the water/oil pump thing fixed and a 12000 mile tune up and hopefully they can get the stereo codes. If not I will do what was suggested and update the whole stereo thing. Guess I wont mess with the anti theft thing....Appreciate your ideas and advice. I'm so ready to put some real miles on this machine! _________________ 1993 K1000Lt, 30,000 miles |

I bought mine with no code and the dealer said they couldnt help,so a friend who fits stereos said to try a website they use. It cost me £20 about $30 and it worked a treat, takes about 24 hours to send the code back via email. You just need the number of the stereo,Any way i would really recommend them
