Our first trip for 2012, a day trip to Goffs, CA., a RT 66 town. Perfect day for riding, mid 60's no wind, bright sunny skies.

Left at 9 am, avoided the early morning rush, south on US 95

Stopped in Searchlight for gas

Had about a 15 minute delay for road destruction just inside CA. on US 95

Headed west on RT 66 - this part of RT 66 didn't show up on my Garmin, but when we got to Goffs, it had the enitre town

We pulled up near the Goffs school house to look around, but the gate was locked. Looked like no one was around, when a gentlemen appeared and unlocked the gate so we could come in and look around.

We introduced ourselves, and "Mickey" took us around. He and his wife volunteer to guide visitors around in exchange for a free camper spot for their motorhome and spend the winter there.

This "museum" is a collection of donated & found relics from individuals and the Park Service. Most of the items from the Park Service have been found in the Mohave Preserve, they want anything that isn't natural to be removed, so many relics from the early mining & old west days are removed and taken to this display by citizens who want to preserve the history. They are just placed out in the desert - some of the items we found interesting

Plaque turned down by the Govt. See if you can find the "offending" word...

This outhouse was used by the Santa Fe railroad, I couldn't get a picture, (door wouldn't open) but the toilet lid had a frog hand painted on it.

The Goffs cemetery

This grave was a man who served in the Civil war, hard to see, but the headstone reads - Randolph Barricklow Co. I 16 Kansas Cav.

Other items we enjoyed

Note the rifle scabbard

Cast iron stove with bread pans for baking

Ice cream anyone ?

Gravity gas pump

Snow plow, must have been pulled by tractor or a team of horses

The Goffs school house had been completely restored and it now on the Registry of Historic Places

An old electrical box, Donna wasn't sure she wanted to stand that close

We ended up staying and walking around there almost 3 hours, a fun place to visit in the middle of nowhere. Oh and the collapsed restaurant is for sale

Back on RT 66 headed west

Stopped at the Hi Sahara Oasis for lunch, burgers and onion rings

Took I 40 back to US 95

Back on US 95, I really starting to enjoy the "dips"

Decide to take Hwy 164 west to Nipton, CA. It is called the Joshua Tree highway, I think it had more Joshua trees than the Park in CA.

Nipton, CA.

Back on I 15, headed north, Primm, NV. coming up

One last stop for gas, it got dark before we made it home

Nice 300 mile trip to start the year.
