Greetings!

I'm in the middle of equipping my bike for a trip in the Alps in April/May to escape half a century birthday celebrations. Wink

I would like to replace the stock windscreen on my bike for more protection against rain - it feels that the stock windscreen is a bit too narrow. I cannot find many alternatives available anymore for these old bikes and have just two alternatives ie. Cee Bailey and ZTechnik.

I'm 6'2" and ride alone. Do you think I would see much difference between these two products?

ZTechnik Z2454 tall touring screen

and Cee Bailey +2" standard or Euro cut

BR,
Finn

I bet the Ztechnik has more buffeting.

Have you checked out the Parabellum?

Do a search on this site for the Ztechnik, as I think some here have purchased that brand.

Thanks, gents.

I haven't looked at the Parabellum much yet - have to check if they have an importer over here.

Need to search the forum a bit more for reading.

Hi Finn - I have the ZTechnik on the LT. I'm 5'9" - got the standard height. There is some less buffeting than with the standard BMW screen.

Cheers Jim,

with less buffeting also slightly less noise, I reckon? I run Schuberth C3 with this bike and it's a very quiet helmet so noise is not a big issue, though.

Hi, Finn!
Also check out these alternatives for taller screens:
Bullster/Secdem.
Motorworks.
Moto-bins.
James Sherlock.

ZTechnik and Cee Bailey

Finn,

I have not compared the two and have not seen a side-by-side comparison from the same user as yet.

However, I've been using a Cee Bailey on my LT for last couple of years and am very happy with it.

I've got a Cee Bailey 2in over, Euro cut and I love it. I'm about 6 ft tall, and my wife really noticed a difference when I put that wind shield on.

Has anyone tried the Cee Bailey 5" over? I'm 6'4" and use a Nolan N102 modular helmet. Very noisy and lots of buffeting from the stock windshield. I'm a long way from my bike at the moment so can't do the Cee Bailey measurement procedure. I'm trying to do a long cross country as soon as I get back to where the bike is and would like to have a new windshield waiting for installation before I leave.

I have a Bailey +2(to my best estimate) with a Russel seat on my 95 LT and then the stock screen with a Corbin(at the moment) on the other. I also wear a modular helmet, Scorpion EXO series.
I have done some experimentation, not extensive, or very deep.
One thing I have found is that my modular helmet is much louder than my full face non-mod helmet when I have the wind stream in my face.

My helmet preference is for the modular as it's easier to get on/off with my eye glasses.
So to that end I have a good supply of ear plugs to deal with the noise issue on longer rides.

I'm about 5-11, obviously I have to have the stock screen up more than the Bailey, but it's not at full up either.
YMMV

I have had both all standard height. I have the ztechnik on now and like it a lot. There is less buffeting with the ztechnik than with the bailey and it definitely does not scratch as easily. I wear a Schubert C2 and a Nolan N90. Raising the screen a little stops the buffeting and noise and I can easily hear any changes in engine noise and listen to my mp3. When I got mine I mentioned the K11OG group and they gave me 10% off.

I really need a higher windshield than the stock one, I am thinking of buying the parabellum + 4" because the Cee Baileys is plexiglass and I don't like the look of the ZTechnik. Now I am wondering if the tint is really a plus or if I should stick with a clear one.

I haven't had my K1100LT for a week yet - so I'm making lists/researching rather than buying at the moment (apart from thrust washers for the handlebars - they should arrive in the post today).

This means that I'm not talking from first hand experience yet - but the OP asked about width as well as height and I understand that the Secdem is wider as well as taller - but I haven't confirmed that yet. If it is, it will be my no.1 choice.

It should also be readily available in Europe Very Happy

Got the bailey std. hgt. with euro cut...it allows you to look over the top and see the road, without looking thru the windshield. And it looks a little more sleek than flat top IMHO...
