my 1993 k1100 lt has developed a loud intermittent whining noise coming from under/around the tank area. This disapears once the engine has stopped but reappears within minutes once started again. The sound doesn't appear to be transmition associated ie continues unaffected with clutch in and out/moving stationary. Wonder if anyone has come across this before.

Sounds like it might be the fuel pump complaining. Open the cap, and see it it gets louder.

If it starts as you get into the bottom half of a tank of fuel, it's the pump and/or it's mounting rubber

Also check/listen in the alternator area, could be worn bearing(s).
