And brought home 2 bikes with it.

One of those things...called in the daytime, figuring "Hundred dollar dirt bike trailer, must be 1. Stolen 2. total POS 3. made of wood. 4. Rusted out with no documentation."

Guy said everything worked, was 100% legal, double-rail dirt bike trailer. I told him I would call him back after work.

So it's 730pm. After work. Almost as an afterthought I gave the guy a call, fully convinced it must be gone. But it wasn't, and something in the guys voice told me he was on the level. That hunch that seasoned CL buyers get. So I drove 1hr to go see. At 930pm. On a Wed night.

So I get there, take one look at the homemade but well-built tubular steel trailer with working lights and current registration and bought it on the spot. Asked why it wasn't sold yet, and he stated that no one wanted to make the drive to check it out. No special hunch powers, I guess.

So the guy proceeds to tell me he's recently moved and his 20+ moto fleet is down to 5 now. 4 are for sale.

Of course I'll take a look.

I came home with 2 bikes. Plus a trailer. For a great price.
All plated, with titles. 2 legal. No stories. No "Oh yeah, about that cracked engine case". Just a guy who lived far enough away that no one wanted to make the trip.

Ok, enough from me. Lets see the tally.
Both bikes are 2-strokes.

Bike 1. 1981 Suzuki TS250. Plated, current tags. fired up on the second kick. Was pulling wheelies in second gear on the test run. 14k+ miles on the original top end. Light blue smoke out of the exhaust like a 2-stroke should. Needs a bit of refreshing, and it's certainly no garage queen, but who could pass up a running, tagged 2-stroke in CA? They are as rare as a Yeti sighting.

I'm going to dump 500 or so into it and keep it as a fun/town/wife/spare bike. The simplicity of it is kind of amazing. It's like 2 wires, a chain and a piston. Maybe I'll try to bring it back to that beautiful Suzuki blue. Someone thought the Mad Max theme would look better.

That's the 100 dollar trailer I went down to look at. Going to sand/rattle can paint it. Do the 2x8 wood floor thing and another wheel chock in the middle for a bigger bike like my Tiger. Will get smaller tires/wheels too, don't need the monsters on there. (although it rides so smooth you can't even feel it, the wheelbase is a bit small and there are no wheel wells, but hey, buyers of 100 dollar trailers can't be picky). The bearings were solid and while the lights were shot, they did work, the wiring was pretty decent/insulated and the hitch was an adjustable type I've never seen before. All in all, without the bikes this trailer would have been huge.

My guy Matt the owner of BOSS suspension systems in Modesto firing it up. 2 kicks. It's like kicking over a scooter.

Bike 2. Needs a bit more work, but PO insists that all I need to do is replace the coil, add some gas and it will fire up. Given what he has told me so far, no reason not to believe him. Still....think I'm going to go through this one slow and thorough. Try and tame it a bit before riding.

1985 KX500. This guy really knew my weaknesses. Sure I would like a newer one, but for the price of a few hundred bucks I couldn't pass it up. The plastics are rough and it needs a good going over, but the engine kicks just fine, the guy has a brand new Kawi coil. (uninstalled) and it's complete. No basket case. Came with a title as well.
This bike is perfect for Central CA. Going to do a slow, basic, working restore on it. Already found a parts bike.
It's fooking evil just sitting there. They don't call it "The Widowmaker" for nothing.

Pro Circuit pipe with FMF spark arrester. Not bad for the first year run of the KX500. Wonder if it's stock or aftermarket.

Both bikes are pretty tight, with no leaks or loose anything that I could tell.

Nice to be the dogs ass when the sun shines on it.

Damn Dave, looks like your garage is going to need to be a little bit bigger.
Sweet deal you got there, enjoy. Wink
