I am sure that i read somewhere that the nuts holding the header pipes to the cylinder head are made of copper. Maybe i dreamt this? Any info greatly accepted.. Dodge. _________________ K1100 lt 97' |

From being in the industry I have used for many years a grade 304 stainless steel thick flat washer with a stainles steel GLENLOCK nut.
The best thing about them is when you take them off you test them on a thread by hand & if you can not push them past the beginning of the thread you can us again.
Possible 3-4 times. Worth the money. _________________ Yamaha TX650A

The gaskets that seal the header pipes to the cylinder head are Copper also (#2) But it looks like the new "improved" (their description) nuts are indeed copper.

I recommend replacing the rubber bits holding up that heavy exhaust while you're at it.
#14 & #12
May keep the rear header pipe from cracking ( my theory) _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248

I bought an extra set of exhaust nuts years ago - they're copper... _________________ Jim

Not of copper actually, but copper plated as copper itself is a to soft material for this purpose.
And the nut is slotted and pressed down to provide locking function.

You also got other types for this use from different sources, which is copper plated or coated
...with or w/o a flange...and pressed oval in the outer end for the locking function.
