I split these entries off of Jeeve's "my three girlz" thread to keep from hijacking it

Most of those guys on Fleabay have no clue what they're up to. The chip they're selling is probably a clone of the one for the K100RS4V ones. That won't work in a K1100 because K1100s have a completely different Motronic.
K100RS4Vs don't have a catalytic converter like K1100s do. (At least in North America) |
slight hijack
North America or USA- I'm confused.
Drake,
My current '92 K100RS4V is not a USA model (speedo is kph only and it has a headlight on-off switch) but it has a cat. Btw, I have no purchase/origin history on the bike.
Can you or anyone else help me with where it came from?
Thanks,
John _________________ John & Cathy

Are you sure it has a cat? Does it have an O2 sensor? I think only the ones with O2 sensors have cats. I didn't think the K100RS4Vs came with a cat but they show in the parts catalog so maybe some of the later ones did.
I've seen several mentions in various places that the K1100LT was the first motorcycle to have a cat.
Of the three K100RS4V bikes I merged to build mine, two 91s and a 92, none of them had a cat.
Just because it has that big thing under the tranny doesn't mean that it has a cat. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

OK, further info. (sometimes I need to actually read what is in front of my eyes)
Went down to look things over. My '92 is on the lift since I did tires/wheels swap yesterday.
It has an oxygen sensor and the big fat thing behind the trans (cat?).
AND- staring me right in the face (boy do I feel stupid) is the frame mounted tag that identifies it being in compliance with Canada regulations.
I knew that the K100 4V bikes were a sort of bridge between the K100 2V and the later K1100.
But is that a cat in my exhaust? and is there anything else different about my '92 that I didn't know about?
Maybe some OG folks from north of the border have more info? _________________ John & Cathy

In the European market a cat was offered as an available option on the 4V (RS/K1) models from 09/90.
From 10/91 it became standard fitted, and a unregulated cat without a lambda sensor was available
as an option to other models.

I've seen mention of K75s in later years being available with a non-lambda cat as an option . Never seen one in person though. BMW probably didn't bother on the 2V K100s since those were being phased out as the four valve four cylinder engines came into production. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
