|
|
In the endless enterprise of cleaning up the '95 K11LT fuel system from the block up, I'd sent the injectors to Mr. Injector and gotten the quick and reasonable service others have praised.
This is a start-and-stop project, where progress is dependent upon our university obligations (commencement one week-end, finals another, and all of that stuff.) Three weeks ago, we were feeling good, having gotten the fuel system reassembled, the TB's synched with a carbtune and a couple of very satisfactory miles around the neighborhood with grins on our faces. But as we were garaging it, there was a spray of fuel.
So today we were able to get back on it: did about four iterations of removing the FI's and reseating them. Ultimately, we found a nick on one of the top o-rings. It's Friday afternoon and Sandia BMW is about 250 miles away.
But here is what we think is a relevant fact: the 0-rings for the fuel injectors on a 1990 Mustang 302 c.i. engine gauge out the same as the new ones Mr. Injector had installed. And they were available for $2.89 for four at a local parts store.
It took one more iteration to get the system up to par: after replacing the chipped o-ring, a leak developed on another one, so we pulled the other three and replaced them.
Did some more riding with no leakage; rsynched the TBs again and now we'll leave the bike naked until we can get some more miles on it over the next week or so.
So while things are good and this seems to be a great solution, I'll be sure to let everyone know if problems with these substitute o-rings develop.

Larry,
Had a similar leaking o-ring problem a couple of years ago on my departed '93 K-RS. Small bit of corrosion made a little tear in one.
Found the exact size at our larger hardware store- they have a pretty extensive aisle of those little pull out drawers with nuts, bolts and....o-rings. Those did the job and were like new a year later.
I always carry a spare set in my tool kit. _________________ John & Cathy

I have had good luck with Viton o-rings from this company for various non-K applications:

No complaints with them so far, and the prices were reasonable. Hopes this helps anyone lacking a local source for good ones.
