Lean't the hard way tonight, my oil light in the instrument cluster has been intemittent in comming on before starting the bike with just the key switched on, at times I could rock the bike and the light would come on, this led me to believe that I had a faulty globe in the instrument cluster, as I had also checked that the wire on the pressure switch was attached.
Well tonight I pulled apart the instrament cluster and pulled the oil light bulb out and tested it, to my surprise it worked put the cluster back in and then I ground out the oil wire to an enginge bolt and the oil light worked, if I did that in the first place I wouldn't have wasted so much time in pulling off the windscreen etc, but I can't rewind that moment as it has now passed.
My question now is when I remove the Oil pressure switch how much oil will I loose or is the switch high enough that I can just do a straight replacement? or am I better off just doing it with the next oil change?
BTW there was a dead back light globe in the cluster that I replaced so it wasn't a total waste?
Cheers
Lou

The switch itself is lower than the oil level, but the suction tube to the oilpump is in same height as center of the oil level glass.
So if your level is at or below that, it shouldn`t be any problem.
I did change some of them on different K`s years back, and didn`t drain the oil then as far as I remember...............but +/- 20 years ago.

It is actually possible to change the whole pump without an oil change, just raise the front of the bike and you'll loos a small amount of oil only.
Now be very careful with the oil switch, it breaks very easily (don't ask how I know...), if you do, you'll have a hard time changing it. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.
