My 93 k1100lt abs1 stops well, but at the very last second of braking just before the stop is complete the front brake quits and the recovers. All fluid is new new pads master cyl has been rebuilt. ??????? _________________ Boot and Saddles |

It sounds like your ABS is activating. Check the gap at the wheel sensor. If it is not reading all pulses, it thinks you have locked up the wheel so the ABS releases the brake. _________________ Doug

I had the same problem after the front wheel bearing were replaced. The front ABS wheel sensor clearance was now out of spec. Made the adjustment and the brakes returned to normal. _________________ Carl |

I gotta say I don't understand the question. What does "front brake quits and the recovers" mean?
Does it means the brakes quit ie they stop stopping you? or does that mean that is it's skidding the ABS stops ABSing ie it start locking up?
The BMW ABS does not work, and I quote from the manual "lower than walking speed ie 4-6kph" or something to that effect. Reason being the pulses are too slow to make a good decision about what is going on and you should be able to control it by then. _________________ K1100RS '97

I solved the issue! The problem was the loose nut behind the bars....I used a sae feeler set instead of metric, Installed the proper shim and brakes work great! Thanx for the great advice. _________________ Boot and Saddles |

Holy cow - I was just loggin in to post this same question.
Had new front bearings and brake pads installed and when I come to a hard stop, the brakes release and reapply. Doesn't happen on a gentle stop.
I was leaning toward a dodgy 'anti-dive' valve, but I don't even know if the 1994 K1100LT has an anti-dive valve.
I will check the sensor clearance with proper shims this week.
Thanks!

Whadda' think we have modern bikes here?
No Will, no anti-dive here. Wishful thinking though......
Good luck with your brakes. _________________ John & Cathy
