|
|
I'm trying to find a easy way/technique to put the wider RS rim/radial tire on '97 LT. Is there a method to do this without exhaust-caliper 'moving'? Bike is elevated on 2x8 board under the centerstand...rear mudguard flap off...
Can't quite 'angle' in through--release air from tire? maybe.
any help to facilitate this greatly appreciated..

It's pretty easy to take the caliper off. Be sure to put a feeler gauge between the ABS sensor and ABS ring when reinstalling so that you've got the right gap there. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yes, I find it easier to wiggle in there if the tire is deflated. _________________ Steve

Remove the shock, lift the bike for instance with wood blocks under the center stand and deflate the tire. If you have a remus exhaust, it is easier to remove the back part. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Or a Staintune. Two bolts and the can is off. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

got it. raise bike, mudflap off, move caliper, release shock lower bolt to lower swingarm, and let air out of tire...its still a tight fit, 'offset' looks different now....bike rode fine, no problems, seemed to handle ok, how much better? tough to gauge really. _________________ 1997 K1100LT-SE

I've done this a number of times:
1. Bike on centre stand
2. Remove LT wheel
3. Remove caliper
4. Remove rear disc (2 small Allen bolts)
5. Roll RS wheel into place between exhaust and driveshaft
6. Reinstall rear disk
7. Reinstall caliper
8. Bolt RS wheel to hub
Having half removed the exhaust the first time I can say my new way is far easier!
Cheers
Ps - and an LT on RS wheels (front too) is obe of the best bikes I've ridden _________________ 1993 K1100LT (x2!)

So,
I've placed the RS rear on my LT, it seems to be ok. Is the 'offset' needing more spacer discs, or am i seeing things...(position seems more to the right than original rim).
What mods are needed to put a RS front on? i figure when in rome...may as well get the wider rim as well... _________________ 1997 K1100LT-SE

I haven't done it but I think the only thing different would be the axle spacers. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Actually with RS wheels, they should be aligned, which is not the case with LT wheels. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.
