Hi, this is my first post here but I've frequently visited this forum searching for wisdom on mantaining myself my 1995 K1100RS. Thanks for all!
The bike's got an oil leak in the front of the oil pan. I've managed to track it down and it appears to be coming from a hole with the size of the allen bolts in front of the oil filter cover.
I recently changed the engine oil and filter and the loctite glue between the oil pan and crankcase trying to solve it but it didn't.
Can anyone tell me what's that hole for and what is causing the leak? (You can see the hole clearly on clymer's page 40, fig 44, left side)
Any help appreciated.
Here is some pictures of the bike I took with my 1950's Voigtländer film camera (common scanner though), if anyone is interested.

Sounds like you have a oil/water pump reseal job coming up. Do a search here - also see several posts at http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech.shtml. Not too difficult - Happy wrenching. _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248

Hi, Lincoln,
The hole is the drain for the water/oil pump if one of the seals begins to leak. That sounds like what has happened. You may be able to replace the seals or you may want to replace the pump. In the USA, the pump is over $400. I have no idea the price in Brazil. You will need seals, a spacer, maybe a shaft, depending on how corroded yours is, and maybe other stuff. When reinstalling the pump, use the gasket sealer sparingly. You don't want to block any passages with a blob of sealant. Were it me, I would remove and inspect the pump, then give the pump to the dealer to replace the seals. It's a tricky job, the first time, to install the new seals without destroying one or both, or so I've been told. I would go to the Max BMW online parts catalogue to check what parts you need. Good Luck! _________________ Ride Safe,

| Is the leak under the oil pump itself? If so, you need to change the seals inside the pump. |

Hey folks, thanks very much for the fast and precise replies. The pump seal failure makes sense since the leaked oil seems like a oil/water mixture.
Already doing my research. Any tips on the job are welcome. |

Lincoln,
When you get the pump repaired and are reinstalling it, pay attention to what Phil mentioned about gasket sealer. You might want to look at a thread I started a while ago:

Good luck with your repairs.

Do check out these videos in the Tech Stickies section too - http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8250 - well worth the watch and helped me immensely when I had the same situation. _________________ David, owner of:

Hi Lincoln,
In my 94 1100RS, I had to get this done pretty much the first year I owned it. The bike was already 11-12 years old when I bought it. I have a bike mechanic I used here in Kingston area. I was told that this is mainly caused by a neglected bike. In my case one that has not been riden, only 14,000 on it when I bought it. Need less to say, the many years of sitting took its toll on the seals and the gear and shaft. All old parts I have kept but I had the bike shop do the work. Lack of time mostly, but the job got done with ease and not really expensive either. Good luck.
