|
|
New Year brings a series of tough "austerity measures" determined by the portuguese government. One is the increase of fuel prices.
To have a better idea of what I'm paying already, I'd like to know what you K11 owners pay, around the world. This is the model I propose, here with some current average prices in Portugal:
PORTUGAL
Unleaded gasoline, 95 octane: 2.03 US$/ liter
Unleaded gasoline, 98 octane: 2.22 US$/ liter
Diesel (I'm just curious): 1.75 US$/ liter
If you agree, replace the country/ write yours and update the fuel type prices. This should be interesting...
Thanks! _________________ Carlos

Varies here in OZ depending on what day it is but basically:-
Unleaded (92 octane) $1.20-$1.40/litre
Premium (98 octane) $1.25-$1.45/litre
Diesel $1.15-$1.40/litre
Fuel with 10% ethanol is fractionally cheaper.
All in A$ but we are in parity with US$ at the moment.
I should add if you go a long way inland you can pay twice that. _________________ K1100RS '97

Wow, I was getting ready to bitch about our fuel prices hitting $3.00 a gallon until I ran a conversion that works out to be about .81 cents a liter for mid-grade (92 octane which is about 98 octane to the rest of the world).
I shall bitch no further....(until I need to fill up my 34 gallon truck fuel tank which = $100+.) Which I do about once a week for business. _________________ Steve

Even my Landcruiser has more fuel than that at 170 litres or 43.5 US gallons
It hurts when we fill it up from empty, lucky I only have to do that once a month! _________________ K1100RS '97

As Steve indicated,l I guess that we have little to complain about here in the U.S.
If I also convert $/"gallon" (stupid way of measuring, huh?) to litres, we are at about $.84/litre _________________ John & Cathy

On my way home from the mine (I work in a copper mine 240 miles [400km] from home) last Thursday, I paid $2.77 per US gallon for regular unleaded. The price for premium unleaded was $2.97 per US gallon. Converting all this to what the rest of the world understands,
91 octane (regular unleaded) $.73/litre
95 octane (premium unleaded $.78/litre
diesel fuel $.83/litre _________________ Ride Safe,

Actually you're just paying taxes and getting a little gas back as a rebate.
I'm in Rancho mirage, CA right now. Prices for regular gas are $3.20-$3.30.
Prices are about the same at home in Seattle. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Holly cow, that works out to be about $8.40 a gallon, at that rate it would cost me about $285 (US) to fill up my truck, or about $14,820 a year!
I'd have to charge my clients a whole lot more to cover that! _________________ Steve

Currently, the price for 95 octane unleaded averages about £1.22 / litre in the UK.
That's approximately $1.90 / litre or $7.19 per US gallon.
You can find documents comparing fuel prices in various countries at http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/fuel/ _________________ '93 K1100RS

Great website Dave. In 1995 when I was in Madagascar, gas was about $3 a gallon. For the average Malagasy worker, that was three days wages for a gallon of gas. Kept thinking what kind of power equipment would make things easier for developing the economy - especially food production. I gave up. There was more production attained with 3 people working 8 hours a day than there was in a gallon of gas. _________________ 93 K1100LT

In South Africa we are paying around $1:30 / ltr for 95 octain petrol, 93 is a little less. The ZA rand is damm strong against the US$ at the mo which makes fuel price seem low... if our currency slips then the price could easilly rise to over $2:00 / ltr.

Thanks, everybody. It's a small sample, but enough to confirm that fuel prices in Portugal are TOO HIGH!!
An economics' article published two weeks ago stated that our gas was the 9th more expensive in the 27 countries of the European Union. Regarding diesel, we're in 11th place. I'm sure we climbed a few steps more, by now... If salaries were correspondent, everything would be ok.
Oil prices in international makets is the obvious explanation, but our taxes... Holy cow! They're brutal! And howcome prices react almost imediatly to oil, when it goes up, while they take three weeks or more to move down, when oil depreciates?
Really great site, Dave. Thanks! _________________ Carlos

How about US$ 2.36 for one liter of unleaded 98? That's the current price in the major Repsol, BP and Galp (portuguese).
I use unleaded 95, as cheap as I can get, but still... US$ 2.03 per liter. Outrageous!! _________________ Carlos

Petroleum products are still a bargain when compared to other things. In y Environmental Science class we calculated the cost of some things by the gallon. This was a fun exercise. The students really loved try to find the most expensive and outrageous thing. They succeeded.
Water bottle water - $12.8 a gallon (at $2.00 for 20 oz.)
Tap water - Free per gallon (almost)
Milk - $3.50 a gallon
Vegetable oil - $3.79 per gallon
Kool-Aid - $1.85 per gallon (using "free" water)
Tide - $6.00 per gallon
Chanel no.5 - $47,504 per gallon
Coffee mate - $5.54 per gallon
Windex - $10.21 per gallon
Hershey's Chocolate Syrup - $13.23 per gallon
Scorpion venum - $38,858,507.46 per gallon _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Super unleaded currently £1.44.9 per litre = £6.58 per imperial gallon or approx $10.65 per imp gallon x 83% = $8.85 per US gallon _________________ There is only now, yesterday is gone and is unchangeable, tomorrow is uncertain. Live in the moment. |

It's interesting that people moan about the price of petrol then when they go to pay for it will spend $3 for a litre bottle of water! What's with that? What's wrong with the tap??? _________________ K1100RS '97

Yeah, what's the problem of drinking tap water? We do it here without any problems. Unless you're in a country with serious water quality problems, can't find a reasonable explanation for not drinking. _________________ Carlos
