|
|
For my '93 K1100RS, I'm soon to need a new set of tires and I curious what you guys use for long distance touring. The bike has stock three spoke rims. I do have a rear five spoke rim in the garage.
On my airheads, I've had great luck, high mileage wise, with Dunlop 491's, but those are no longer available.
Thanks for any help. _________________

Hi Randy....
I use Avons on my Airhead ( '76 R100/7 ) and Metzlers on my K1100LT .... my other bike ( Virago ) never strays more than 20 or 30 mies from home !
Good luck, you'll get lots of opinions here !

Thanks for the advice....I picked up a Pilot Road 2 for the front today and am in the process of putting it on.
But, with the front rim off the bike, is there anything I should check/grease with the front wheel bearings?
Thanks _________________

You can check the wheel bearings but the only grease you apply is a light coat to the axle when you stick it back in. I usually stick my finger in and turn the bearing manually to see how smooth they turn and call it good. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

Front wheel bearings felt smooth with no catches anywhere. New tire is balanced and on the bike now. Did a five mile loop around the nighborhood....the bike feels great. Wish now I could have another weekend day to ride the range, but it's back to work Monday. Blah! _________________
