I'll keep this as short as possible.
This year at HM- Sean (Rydor) really grabbed my attention with his "wedge engine" K1200S. Very nice modern bike- good handling, V. good power. And there are LOTS of farkles out there to trick it out. Hmmmmmm
My current ride- the '09 Concours has been OK, yeah kinda' fun. But BIG, HEAVY and no "personality". 10,000 miles since new in April of this year. So it does the distance but so does a Goldwing- but I ain't there yet....
Now up here in northern NH, winter is starting to close in. No snow on the ground yet although it has snowed several times and most nights are well below freezing. In a word- DEPRESSING.
So......what's a MC rider to do?
To the rescue- go slightly south- MaxBMW NY and a nice salesman, Craig. Thought I might take a new K1300S for a test spin. Easy enough to do and they are really willing to let an old guy like me twist a few throttles. So I did a road trip today and three hours later I am pulling out of Max's lot on a demo K1300S. WOW WOW WOW
Ya' know in Star Wars movies where they do the "jump to light speed"? I think I did just that today. 2nd gear and 6000rpms and nail it. HOLEE CHIT.
I wanted to like it and the bike did not let me down. Great handling, light steering, NOW brakes and that acceleration. Phenomenal!!!
But I do know me and I can easily see my life ending while on a bike like that. Too much accel, speed and bike for this 55 y.o.
So back down to Earth, John.
They also had another (used) bike there that was in AMAZING condition. VERY CLEAN (and for me to say so is a stretch- I am a nut on clean). 72,000 kilometers- yes it is a non-USA model along with an off/on headlight switch. Maintenance records, Corbin seat with passenger backrest, and did I mention that it is white and.......CLEAN?
To close this entry, the Concours is gone and a different bike is now in the HL garage. And it is a.......
Wait for it...

Done. Full circle. Was there, drank the water elsewhere and now I am back.

Thanks folks.
Yeah it is as clean as it looks, even up inside the belly pan. And everything works as it should (OK, that'll jinx me- probably start it in the next day or two and the ABS lights will give me the fault light show). The guy even had the bag lids Rhino Liner'd.
As far as the color, I do agree that black (which was the color of my first MC, a '77 Yamaha XS500D) would have been better than white. Red would have reminded me too much of the K-RS I sold earlier this year. We'll see how easy or hard it is to keep clean.
Of course the K1300S that I test rode was pretty good looking too:
But the old BMW "Motorsports" (IIRC, that's the proper name?) colors of white with blue and red pinstripes have somehow always attracted me, and this bike is close- only blue pinstripes.
Anyway now I can start to sift through the service records that the P.O. provided- a quick scan shows mostly regular maintenance, nothing big as far as repairs. And the P.O. wants me to contact him just to say Hi. Guess he really liked his (former) ride.
And for what it's worth a Clymer manual came with the bike too Hope I don't have to crack that open too much, but having already owned a K bike I feel like I am pretty well up to nearly any brick challenge that might come my way.
Of course I have the entire K11OG to help me with that

Welcome back to the fold.
That is some story.
Very cool pearl white? bike.
And if OTG is lurking, BFD! BFD!
Again, I'll throw this out there.
My 93K11RS has been my reguar transportation for 2 years. If the roads are clean and clear I go out.
The last 5 months or so have been nuts busy at work. I went almost a month or longer with out washing the bike. Do the safety check, look at the fluids, ride & repeat.
The bike has not had a thing go worng on it, not even a little bit.
So, WTF is wrong with my K ?
Guess I got lucky, only about 48,000 on it now.
Many more miles I'm sure.
Same for your ride I bet, ride safe out there.
See you at HM this year. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Funny thing- I did not see it in the MaxBMW listing. But once I saw the bike in person, the first thing I noticed was its condition and the very next thing that jumped into my head was the BFD and OTG

Welcome to the dark side. And white is the fastest color.
Makes my clunky old K100 look like a parts bike. Well done. _________________ www.tidewaterforge.com |

I wanna know how somebody can put 72,000 km on a K bike and have barely any wear on the paint on the peg plates. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
