Anybody here on it?
If so what do you think about it?
I did some research about safety and privacy, and once I understood it, I signed up.
So far, so good. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

I was on it for a while. It became a bore and quite the time suck. Took forever to wade through all the dribble. Deleted my account. Have considered going back on it with a limited number of "friends"

Have considered joining, but I'm not sure it's a place for a recovering introvert. I've heard lots of reasons not to join, not many compelling reasons to join. But I'm all ears...
Anyone - Give me a good reason to join. _________________ tlp

Yeah - I'm on it. It can be a time suck - but I've found this helps a lot: http://betterfacebook.net/
Setting apps privacy so your friend's apps don't snag all your info is a little tricky.
It also helps if you don't have a thousand friends... I don't "friend" people I don't know.
If you use an iPhone, you'll want to read this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/20/disable-facebook-places_n_689111.html _________________ Jim

If your kids/grandkids are on it its worth it. I have found old friends from overseas on it. They write in languages I don't understand, but the pics are good. _________________ 93 K1100LT

Like anything there are good and bad aspects. For me the good outweigh the bad by a country mile. Facebook allows you to stay connected, learn new things, and exchange ideas.
If you write and present as I do, it also allows you to trial soundbites of material.
Go with it, be selective about what your news feed gives you (unless you like spending hours playing on-line games), and if you want to add me as a friend feel free to do so.

Not on it. Not planning on it in the near future either.
The forums and e-mail are enough for me now. I hardly have time for them as it is. _________________ Ride safe.

I agree with David. I use Facebook and enjoy it. I am amazed by the entertaining observations friends post about everyday life. It's a good way to learn to be more observant then write interesting short comments on the observations. Not that I can. _________________ 93 K1100RS

Anyone - Give me a good reason to join. |
To have the best control do this:
1. set up an NEW email account and only use it for FB.
2. Make an account like Klinker + something you like or like to do.
Of course you can use your real name, but I didn't want that.
Like this: Klinker the most interesting man in the world.
Or Klinker the sexyist man alive.
Ok that's a little wordy.
Try Klinker Rider
3. As soon as you have a FB account and BEFORE looking for friends, go to you "Privacy Settings" and set EVERYTHING to "me and friends only"
Remember, FB "wants" you to share.
See the "customize setting" bottom right.
Click it.
Then turn off all but email motification, otherwise it can be overwhelming.
Next, avoid hitting the "like". the FB program 'collect' data on what you 'like' and targets adds for you. Instead 'comment' on the things you like.
Next, about friend requests, ask who they are and where do they know you from before 'confirming" frien request.
I do something like this.
"I'm new here so please forgive me but I don't know you by this name.
I had a bad concussion in 2007 so I struggle with some things still.
If you are a member of a mororcycle forum I might know you by a name you use there.
Ride with joy,
Gwen"
That should give you a good start. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Just don't tell the world when you're going on vacation. I read about a Facebook user who did this and a "friend" robbed his home.
My wife uses Facebook. I cautioned her about revealing personal information. Over the years, one can reveal lots of details, creating a nice profile for identity theft. _________________ 2000 R1100RT
