.... riding with Micki and JO. I promised them a long day of riding - - - and I delivered.

We met at the motel in Renton and were on the road at about 7:15am. We parted ways on I-5 near Southcenter at about 10:15pm.

Our first destination was, of course, FOOD. I got a recommendation to try out this place in Enumclaw:

Good eats:

I ordered the "half order scramble" of eggs ham onions potatoes and cheese. It was big enough to feed a small country, like say, Canada:

Even after breakfast JO was still cranky so we had to get him a pacifier:

Then we rode the twisty road up to Sunrise in Mt. Rainier National Park. We were there early enough before the Sunday tourist onslaught so we pretty much had the road to ourselves.

At Sunrise:

Heading back down:

Then we headed off to Windy Ridge on FS 25. That clearing in the background is a massive slide that took out quite a bit of roadway. No wonder the road was closed we were here back in June. That's JO crossing the temporary steel-framed, wood-decked bridge:

Here's Johnny and Micki on FS 99 on the way up to Windy Ridge. Although at this point we're still pretty far from Mt. St. Helens, you can see how the trees were blown over by the force of the massive eruption:

Here's the log jam at the base of Spirit Lake. All of those trees were devastated by the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980:

Perfect motobrick alignment:

Mt. St. Helens:

With motobricks in the foreground:

No ride with JO is complete without a bar end shot:

Here they come:

There they go:

My usual Ohlins needs a bebuild. This is my spare. When installing it on Saturday I discovered that you can't mount the reservoir under the seat on the frame rail with a Reynolds Rack. So I figured out this "ghetto" mounting arrangement:

Box Canyon back at Mt. Reinier Nat'l Park. The picture doesn't do the shear rock walls justice:

Mt. Rainier was covered in clouds by this time but there were still some good views to be had:

The top of Narada Falls:

Can't go wrong with a brand name like this:

Time for dinner and a beer in a railroad car:

After dinner Johnny demonstrated his X-ray vision:

As for the riding, these are some of the best roads in the state and have very little traffic. Lots of 20 and 25 mph harpins just perfect for getting the RS laid over hard. I hadn't had a chance to ride the RS like this since riding home up the CA coast back in January - and with no extra weight in the back this time.... let's just say that the new rear PR2 I installed on Saturday doesn't have a chicken strip anymore. Very Happy

A great day of riding and scenery.

That is all. Carry on.....

You'll probably get a quicker response if you don't email to an email address that I stopped using a long time ago. Razz

Cool pics Duck, that's some beautiful country.

That shot of the log jam is amazing! To think those logs have been there for 30 years!

Thanks for sharing.

Amazing indeed. I wonder how many thousands of logs there are, and how long they'll last.

Nice ride report. Flatlanders are drooling.
But crikey, 7:15 meet? Did JO have to ride 2 hrs to get there? The man is insatiable for riding.
Here, from his WI ride report, is kinda proof of the Birchwood visit. Shot at 5:40am on his way to Superior North Shore:

He just rides and rides

Nice ride!
Thanks for sharing.
I've met JO & Micki,
I've ridden & dined with JO,

Maybe some day I'll meet the Drake.

I got even $ that cheese ain't as good as WI cheese can be.

Thanks again for the report!

When I can't escape, and that happens all too much, these reports help feed my need and mainatin a measure of sanity.
I swear to dog I'd go crazy & scream at the moon without a little relief that they bring me.
