Got into a wreck today. A woman made a left turn in front of me @ 25mph.
My only injuries are scrapes to my right leg. The bike is toast. What is the value of a 93 K11. Not in great shape. The ABS does not work. Tires worn. Has 150k on the meter.

Sorry to hear about the crunch, glad you're mostly OK. I hope you get some insurance money from it (hers that is).

I'd guesstimate the bike was worth about $3,000, maybe a little less.

Yowza, sorry to hear!!! Glad to hear the only damage to you is some scrapes.

As for the bike, in this case it is a good thing Insurance companies don't really care about mileage and condition - only year and covered accessories. For every guy out there pissed to no end because his low-mile, new condition bike is valued so low there is someone happy that miles and condition are not really part of the equation.

Worth? Depends where you are. In the DC area I would value it at around $4,500 - add $500 for bags, dollars for any other accessories, and look for ads anywhere in the country that back up my ask. This link will search the entire country for craig's list ads for BMW K1100RS, also look on the BMW MOA Flea Market, IBMWR Marketplace, and maybe ADVRider.

For what it is worth I went through this dance about 5 months ago, representing a friend who had just totaled her '87 K75C. The bike had about 50k miles and was in OK shape, she dropped it at a stop light and the resulting damage was mainly to the side case and engine valve cover. The adjuster decided the cover gouge required a new engine ($6k or so) and was in a mood to total. I combed the Internet for ads for K75Cs and saved all the high-priced ones, then presented them to the adjuster. We went back and forth a bit but he went from $1,700 to $3,500 for the bike, then went on to cover the gear (arm scuff) and the helmet (scratch.)

It wasn't hard, just requires a bit of groundwork on your part - remember her insurance company must compensate not for what your bike is arguably worth but what it will cost you to replace it. Blue book is a helpful determinant but it is just a recommendation. Remember also to include gear priced at new, helmet, gloves, etc. all priced at new cost to replace, and see a doctor about the leg to ensure there is no hidden or long term issues.

Save all your receipts and sign NOTHING until every last thing has been paid!

Good advice Ted, I was thinking more of what his bike might have been worth, not neccessarily replacement cost....Let's see, they don't make the K11 anymore, so, say a new Kawi Concours, $14K, riding gear, $1K, Dr. bills, lost time from work, pain and suffering, $3k and it's customary to ask for three times medical, so make that $9K, I'd say $27,000 should cover things nicely! Laughing

Ted's right about not accepting any immediate offers, wait 'till the dust settles and be patient, make sure your injuries are not worse than they appear today and add up any time spent out of work, at the DR's, etc...

Good luck.

I looked for a bit and saved a bunch of ads from a variety of sources in PDF format in this ZIP file:

ZIP FILE

Pick the ones you want and use them to show your adjuster that the real market prices are actually much higher than whatever he/she is offering.

Glad to hear the bike sustained all of the damage. Where did this happen? (What intersection? As a local I'm curious.)
