Anyone tried these guys for repair?
Auto & Truck Electronics

Rogersville, Tennessee 37857
They told me that they can totally rebuild my ABS I brain. It is damn spendy at $689 but has a 5 year warranty. My local BMW dealer told me about them. Says they are good with electrical stuff but not so good with mechanical stuff like modules.

Are you VERY sure a computer has failed beyond recovery?

Gwen,
'bout as sure as I know how to be. ABS has never worked since I bought the bike. Since then I have replaced the battery. BMWMICK walked me through the diagnostics using an LED on the test plug. I have also replaced the ABS relay. I also have made sure the sensor gaps are right. If you take the ABS relay out and disconnect the "ABS brain" the BMU works as it should.
I have confirmed that the ABS is not working by locking up the brakes on a back road.
I get a code 7 with my LED. I also took it to my local dealer this week and paid the big bucks to have it put on the computer. They say it won't reset and is showing code 7. Everything I have read says code 7= bend over.

I was going to say, you can find those used for around $200 if you are patient. _________________

G & T,
Been giving used a thought. Just wonder what kind of life I will get out of one that is as old as my crapped out one. I have been riding it for 3 years without it working, just wanted it to work is all. Probably say screw it and pull the relay and brain back out.

Jeff - I would give used a try, they are made to last at least the life of the bike and the failure of the brain is pretty rare. A used one should last you as long as you have the bike.
Plus, in the off chance something else is going on having it would be nice to be able to put in a known good working one to troubleshoot.

Good morning Mike...
I THINK the fellow in Japan only repairs the Motronic units... but our forum partners will know for sure. BTW I have the same problem, and "Duck" plus Phil both recommended to first try having a BMW shop try flushing the brake fluid and modulating the ABS-ll at the same time since it MAY be just an air entrapment !

The fellow in Japan repairs ABS1 modules and apparently is very successful as he will warrant his work for 180 days. At current Yen/ Dollar exchange rates the cost is around $200 minus shipping.

I am about to send him my ABS1 module from a 1993 K1100LT that recently went code 7 on me. |

Let me know how the guy in Japan does. I want to send him mine but I was looking for a few more satisified customers first. I will not spend almost $700 for ABS I will remove it before I spend that kind of cash for it to be repaired. _________________ Ron

Jeff,
I haven't sent the ABS1 brain out yet because I found a possible used replacement module for my LT. The replacement worked for a short period of time and now it says my front ABS speed sensor is faulted so it's back to troubleshooting and possible parts swapping. I will send one of the two ABS1 modules I have to him though as he does claim to know which parts eventually die in the circuitry and need to be upgraded (especially correcting the dreaded Code 7).
