You can install a f/d from a K1 12/33 or from a k11rs 11/32.

First check to see what you have - it will be cast into the final drive housing. Mine is 33:12 (2.75:1) on a 1995 K11 LT and the bike gets buzzy above about 68mph actual (gps). I sometimes wish I could get a custom 33:13 set made up (2.54:1) which would bump that up to approx 75 mph, but after my recent tour on the back roads of Eastern Oregon and Idaho I realize it's geared about right for those conditions (two laners). _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

I agree that they're geared about right. It's a matter of coming to the realization that they're high rpm engines, not Toyota Corollas.
You can swap in R1200C gears into the FD too. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I have a CL gear set (2:54) in my RS.
Built up with new bearings by http://www.largiader.com/
Not cheap to do - but not a job for the back yard mechanic either. Gear lash
and preload have to be set right the first time or you get to buy more
expensive BMW parts. Takes a little more clutch slip starting out - especially
two up - other wise the engine has plenty of torque for the new gears.
At 70 mph - 4000 rpm on tach - not sure how accurate speedo is. 15/20
more miles on a tank of gas - hard to say really - I don't do the all
day super slab rides - no need for any of the Iron Butt pins - prefer the
curves and dips of the hills.
In process now of returning RS back to stock configuration ( to sell ) -
will selling final drive soon.
E-mail if interested. _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248

You can put an RS wheel on an LT (I have and so have others) but the difference between the diameter/circumference of LT and RS tires is only about 1%. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
